Got engine in today!! Running RICH!!

Fresh rebuild. All new seals and springs except apex seals ( front apex seal springs were collapsed ) The engine was street ported and 3mm less than 10k mi.
Runs GREAT and idles smooth!! following mods: power fc, fmic, 3mm, street port, nonsequential (removed gate and all butterflies), 850 primary 850 secondary
pully kit, Dp, full exhaust.

Runs smooth as can be untill boost!! At 5 psi just for a split second the car wants to sputter so we let off and it will have a small backfire from the unburned fuel. The cust had the PFC installed and does not have a Commander to tell jack!!
Exhaust fumes will burn your eyes at idle and the inj are reading around 64%-66% on the apex acvr all the time regardless of rpm. When the pfc was installed the tuner could not get it properly tunned because of the low compression, and I think he left it rich so it would not hurt anything else. Motor had ALOT of carbon deposits when we rebuilt it.

Does this sound like its too rich ??? Will it hurt the engine to drive from Houston to Dallas to have it tuned?? Cust Plans on getting a commander but will still need it professionally tuned.

first off. why is he using an avcr if he has a pfc.. ??? i would take that out of the loop for troubleshooting purposes. you really need a commander to see what that pfc is set for and also to see what it is doing. To me it sounds like the injector size isnt set right.

I'm betting it because of your 850 primaries. Unless the PFC has the ability to control staged injectors, which I don't think it does. If it can, you need to set it up properly to smooth out the transition from primary to primary+secondary injectors. With the 850/850 combo, you will dump too much fuel when the secondaries come on line (30% too much).

The avcr is to control boost only. He had this mod before the PFC and I was able to look into the pfc with a commander once (while his car was apart and another cust had his there and I put the pfc in the running car and looked with the commander) Long story ! The injectors were set to 850/850 at 85%, seq was turned off, bost was turned off, and I think the timing was set to 30 L and 15 T. Not too sure I cant remember. Well we cant get use of commander now because the car that had it is gone now!!

Got commander today and played with the tune. It was set at 100% inj duty cycle, and the map was just screwed! Reset the map to base and it did alot better but it was POURING black smoke under boost. I set the inj to 85% and leaned the map form the P&N 10 thru 20. It helped alot with the black smoke but it is still running way too rich. I think that now it will be driveable to reach dallas for a tuning session.
