Got back from dyno with TO4S single turbo

Yesterday when we got my brother's FD dynoed was probably the worst luck we've had in a long time. First of all the fuel pressure somehow got turned down by the fpr. Base presure was only 25 it got turned back up to 40. Our fuel pressure was good until we hit about 5Krpms and started to drop like crazy. Checked the fuel filter and it was clogged. Instead of cleaning it we just bypassed it. Got back on the dyno and got more pressure but then started to drop off at 6Krpms. We couldn't figure out why so we just decided to check the fuel pump to make sure the same one that was installed is still in there. We found that the fuel pump sock collapsed and covered up about 1/2 of the fuel pump inlet tube. There ws nothing we could do so we just decided to take the sock off. OK, so now we have all the fuel we need and ran it at 10psi all the way up to redline and got about 350rwhp. I thought those were awesome numbers for only 10psi, plus he tuned it rich to compensate for 110 octane. Should get something like 360 with pump gas.

OK, now it's time to turn the boost up to 20psi. Turned the **** on the Blitz Dual-SBC controller and nothing but 10psi. We even turned it all the way up and still only 10psi. We didn't know what to do and it was starting to get up to 100degrees out. We just called it quits and right when we unstrapped the car, I found a switch in the back of the boost controller. Well, that switch is there to tell the boost controller weather the turbo has an internal or external wastegate. By that time it was getting just way too hot so we went home

OK, now the ride home. 2 blocks from home the car decides to stop. Almost felt like the battery died or something. Looked at the tailpipe and saw white smoke as if a coolant seal went out. Sat there for a few minutes and tried to start it back up. The starter wouldn't even turn the engine at all so I thought hydrolock Then some guy walked by and said it smells like a head gasket That gave me a little smile. Then all the sudden we loked under the car and saw gas just pouring out of the turbo/air filter. We disconncted the battery and towed the car home.

here's what I found out so far. Somehow when the engine was off, the injectors just kept on going filling up the rotors with fuel. It filled it enough that it went up the intake manifold, through the IC piping, filled the IC, and started to flow out of the turbo. Here's a pic of the IC, that's about $15 worth of race gas right there fellas

Holy crap that is insane! That has got to be the most insane case of flooding I've ever heard of. Good luck sorting it all out.

actually no i'm not, you're lucky, i'm surprised that fuel didn't ignite and cause a massive engine fire...100F weather, freshly dynoed....yeah, you're lucky

You probably left the key on. I once had a mechanic leave the key on in my 82 GSL. It did the same thing. I wound up having to disconnsct the header to let the exhaust dry out. I also pulled the plugs and turned over the engine manually to get the gas out of the engine. You have a lot of work ahead of you to dry out a turbo. Fortunately, you probably didn't damage anything.

Pretty much got all the gas out of where they weren't suppose to be. You guys should have seen all the gas that came out of the spark plug hole when I cranked it. Probably half a gallon came out.

We were running very hot that day so I'm suprised the engine didn't hydrolock from all the fuel. Can something like that happen?

Duuuuuuude!

Youre so damn lucky! Be glad... you're better off with an insanely flooded engine than with a burnt car and 3rd degree burns.

I have NEVER heard of that!!!! Thats some crazy ****!!!

Let us know how this happened so no one else does it!!!!

Sorry to hear about the prob, but glad it didnt burn to the ground.

I wonder if when you turned the fpr from 25 to 40 you were really over compensating for the fuel pump sock problem, then when you pulled the sock off your pressure went from like 40 up to like 100. Which would probably force your injectors open and let fuel just pour and pour and pour

STEPHEN

Yes you can run too big of injectors, but it shouldn't cause a problem like this.
