I was at KDR today chatting with Dave. I saw the car outside. I think I overlooked it though because it was in stock form . I'm happy it got a good approval, Dave's a great guy!

Gordon, I was there when you were on the phone with him. Jesus, the two of you were on the phone for over an hour! You're the black 20b/t88 with the Microtech being installed correct? Car looks very promising

Maxg, did you happen to have them pressure test the coolant system overnight to see if there was a loss in pressure?

Hello,

Today, If you did than you have seen it in person before me....but I was under the impression the car has gone back to its owner already. It will however be back at KD before I pick it up to do the minor stuff Dave mentioned.

Thanks

Overnight Pressure Test

Hello WaLieN

I am not sure. I did ask Dave to do every test possible. When I spoke with him he did tell me that there were no coolant leaks or issues. He spoke to me for of 30 mins about the car and I tried to write everything down as best I could but I am no mechanic. He advised me that if I spend some $600 on the trim parts, the driver seat bolster, and the front sway bar mounts was bent by less than 1/4" (common on all FD's and he said less than most he has seen) the car would be considered like new and not need a penny. As well Dave mentioned that this car and this engine should last me easily till 100K miles if I follow the proper maintenance. I would assume that he's done it if the motor should be good till 100K but I will ask him.

He may be getting a visit from my original "as new" 74 RX4 as well for some minor stuff. so if it ends up there and people want to see it I'll post it here.

Thanks

Max

Congrats! Sweet ride.

Mine's quite similar to yours, 94 touring SSM/red interior, except my door trim is black which I actually like quite a bit. Regardless, great find! Low mileage FD's are hard to come by, as are people who don't mind paying for them!

Mine is a garage queen as well .... but mainly because it's low mileage! I'm toying with the idea of picking up a 2nd one to drive around!

Max,

I am "therighthand" on clubrx. The only reliability mods you need are:
Downpipe (Ceramic coated black would be close to OEM with performance benefit)
Metal AST (Could paint it black, a nice wrinkle black would make it look OEM)
Radiator if you are wanting not to think about it.

Also, on a car that old just from age the rubber of the water hoses and such I would change.

Congrats

Well ****, I'm 0 for 2. There was three silver fd's one of which was stock body and red leather. I also assumed that the black fd in the shop was Gordon's... UGH!

[QUOTE=maxg765;7977229]Hello All,

I will try and answer all your question in one post not to bore all of you.

As for the above comment I don't no why some people find contentment in knocking other peoples purchases. I am glad for you that you got a good steel of 2K on your FD but when was this, what condition, and did yours require work or a rebuild? And your in Japan. Can you find another one in true new condition for 2K, I don't think so."------------

Sorry man I didn't mean to offend you, or that nice FD, I was crakin jokes. And to answer your question, no i would not be able to find another deal like this. The only reason i got this deal was because the guy i bought it from was leaving for Korea on a sunday and (his wife) decided to sell on a Friday. I just wildly through 2g's cash out there and his wife said SOLD! She was like if you don't sell it to him then i will just get rid of it while you are gone. So yes i stole it thanks to his wife to see the condition and read all about it check out this link

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/should-i-buy-1992-3rd-gen-jdm-rx7-732540/

there is like two different sets of photos so check'em out.

And again that is a nice FD to have in the states! Take good care of her

Hello

No worries. Sometimes things written then read can come off with diff interpretations.
Saw your car. I know nothing about Japan road laws and inspection requirements but you seem to know what your doing. Good luck over there.

Pressure Test the coolant

Hello WaLieN,

I put full confidence in Dave at KDROTARY. Here is the answer I got.

I quote Dave"
Hey Max...we do a coolant leakdown test two ways...one..if the car is
burning any coolant from coolant seal failure there will be very tiny white
dots on the spark plugs from the ethyl glycol burning...under a magnifying
glass your spark plugs had no signs...as the plugs looked original from wear
it was even better...they show a long history on the plugs...the next issue
with coolant seals ...as combustion pressure is higher than coolant
pressure...and on startup the coolant seals are at there weakest as
everything is cold...a motor with worn coolant seals will push the
compression into the coolant system and create pressure very fast...normally
a cold start engine with good coolant seals wil create a vacumn in the
coolant system for the first 2-3 minutes...so what we do is put a pressure
tester on the cooling system on a cold motor and start it up..if it
instantly builds pressure we know we have coolant seal issues...if it draws
a vacumn we know all is well....your silver 3rd gen drew a strong
vacumn...we also let the pressure tester on it for the whole time we checked
out car and it never lost an iota of pressure over 2-3 hrs...so I am pretty
confidant all is well..."
End Quote.

Like I mentioned, I asked them to give the car a poor review where ever possible and Dave could not find anything wrong with the car. I was looking for reason any NOT to buy it, not needing this car. Even the factory markings under the body and chassis that are placed during production were present. Something I did not even ask Dave to look for as I don't even know about them or where they should be. I am very confident that KDROTARY has done all the tests that could, should and beyond to this car to verify it new condition and perfect mechanicals and body.

Thanks for the info and now I have my ans. I think I will have to put this car in a vacuum bubble for another 10 years till it becomes a true antique but remain new.

Best regards

Max

I'm glad to hear that, Maxg.

The reason I asked was just for that very reason. Many of these so-called "low mile" cars often sit, with little periodic maintenance habits. Owners will follow the maintenance schedule based on miles, and not actual time. The sad thing is that regular coolant flushes are often missed. The result is a slowly deteriorating coolant seal.

Those are two top notch cars you have in your stable.

Max, if I'm ever in Montreal now I'll have to try to look you up.

A couple of years ago a friend bought a 95 FD with 6k miles on it. It was incredible. She drove it daily, and now it's probably got 40k. I wouldn't have done that - I would have kept it as you are.

Hello WaLen,

I agree. Many just let them sit and the oil change interval by way of waiting for the miles it add up has killed many good low mile cars. That was one of my concerns too next to odometer tampering, hidden non insurance repaired accident history regardless of clean carfax, and rest of mechanicals, and paint originality. Glad all checked out.

Here is my RX4, not to highjack my own thread.

Thanks

Hello

Do let me know if you ever come to MTL.

A 95 with just 6K on it-wow I would have bought that in a sec and left it low miles. A 95, last year and no bugs was my first choice then 93, the first year, and then 94, all of coarse after finding the right car which was most important.

Hello therighthand,

How are you? I don't recall at that one meet I attended who matched with which user name, with all these diff user names, not to mention I am already bad with names in general. Nice to see you on this side too. Looking forward to a more active year this year with both my RX's. R U going to the US Deals Gap in April? I don't think our weather this year will allow any of my cars to be out by mid April the way things are going.

I'll trade you my 1993 cym with 48k miles (also a KD rotary car) for yours. I just bought it for 22700 so it would be an even deal

I LOVE the red interior.

Congrats and glad you got your hands on a gem. They are harder & harder to find these days.

Thanks to all

Hello All,

Thank to all for all the comments.

And questions....answers....

For TK7
I don't plan on driving it too much as it will not be my daily driver and I hope it will not see any rain either, but I do plan on driving it some. It will get the required exercise and storage maintenance schedule it needs to stay healthy and new.

For TK7
I will not be making ANY mods at all. This car will remain a low miles and 100% stock example with the exception of an aluminum AST tank and maybe I will put the R1 front lip in place of the stock Touring one. In either case I will keep both of the OEM parts with the car. I will even be keeping the original Spark plugs and every part that ever gets changed. This car will look the same for another 15 years and maybe have 40K miles on it by then.

For DriftN7 and revsteve
As for trades, sorry, while I love the 93 CYM's I love my Red and Black interior and 14K miles more. Did you buy yours from KDRotary or he checked it out for you? Mine was not from them, I only had it brought to him for the FULL check up. He will be getting her back again in April for the minor little things it needed and a full service of oils, fluids, and new sparks before I go down to arrange transport.

I can't wait to get her.

Best regards

Max
