Got 14K Original Mile Silver/Red 100% as New & Tested
Hello All,
I have been looking at this car for some time now. I had the car checked out by one of if not the best shop in America. KDROTARY and the owner Dave. He was Mazda America's top gun on the FD's when the were new having trained in Japan. He now owns and runs www.kdrotary.com in PA. Well known and if you live in the area and have no one you currently deal with check them out.
I got the official report on the car yesterday. Basically the car got a near perfect bill of health and said to be as new.
Every diagnostic was done including checking the OEM instrument cluster for the blue seal tape by Mazda Japan to see if it was ever opened and tampered with. I mean I had everything checked such as original joints, shafts, seals, you name it. I wanted a bad report as much as possible to have an excuse not to buy the car. Instead even the shop was surprised with the car.
1993 FD RX& Touring with BOSE Silver/Red Leather
All the Rotary's had 121 PSI / 8.2kg CM Squared. (as a new car)
The Turbos are perfect and the suction perfect (The vacuum lines are good but they felt they will only last another 2 years before they start to pop off due to age and drying)
The breaks are 2/3 still good and even wear all around on all sides
Tires are new
The interior has ZERO wear except the side bolster of the driver seat (I will replace it with new OEM) leather. And he meant zero wear as if the car just came out new
The body is near perfect (it is a 1993) and shows like a 8 month old car
The whole car is 100% stock and I was told its the cleanest FD he (the shop) has seen aside form a new one back in 1993.
I was told the car needs nothing except two small black trim parts on the driver door that should be replaced due to minor marks from someone trying to steel it once before using a coat hanger. No other damage and only $75 each from Mazda.
Looks like I landed a perfect stock car in true new 14000 miles condition.
Yes I know the battery try is not on it right now
I should have it in April.
Woohoo

very nice find. if you can live with the red interior. I would buy it and keep it in near stock condition with some reliability upgrades. how much is the owner asking for it?.

he probably won't tell us how much he paid b/c it is like 25g's
can't beat my 2g's for mine, but then again you would never find a deal like that in the states...

Try to answer all questions
I will try and answer all your question in one post not to bore all of you.
As for the above comment I don't no why some people find contentment in knocking other peoples purchases. I am glad for you that you got a good steel of 2K on your FD but when was this, what condition, and did yours require work or a rebuild? And your in Japan. Can you find another one in true new condition for 2K, I don't think so.
Now for the answers:
The car is really new and in better condition than a 6 to 8 month old well babied car. Zero marks on the interior as if 1 month old (minus the driver seat side bolster, which is not that bad but just does not match the rest of the car-easy fix.)
No $ to be spent on the car minus the $200 to $300, labor included for the two minor exterior driver door black trim parts due to hanger marks from a theft or prev owner locking keys in car but thats nothing. Breaks are better than 2/3rd left, tires are new, and the muffler is new OEM stock. I just have to drive it as if I were back in 1993.
KDROTARY told me a brand new rotary should read 121 PSI or 7.2kg when new and 8.2kg after a few months and proper break-in, thats exactly this engine. Told that it should last easily to 100K if well maintained.
As for the red interior and if could live with it? It would have been my first choice back in 1993. Don't get me wrong, I love the black and beige and any would have been a great find. I just find the red different and this will not be my daily driver.
The car will remain 100% stock minus any reliability mods that may be required and if I do those anything changed will be kept.
As for getting the car out on the road, poor sad FD, and banging the garage walls, well I have to admit this car will not see too much road use. I don't plan on more than 5000 KMs per year, only only nice sunny days-no rain. It will look great in my garage next to my 1974 RX4 Coupe with 33000 original miles also all original including shiny paint.
And, finally the price. I got it for $10000.00. Was that good? The owner just wanted to sell it since he never really uses it and his wife had been nagging him to do so. Ya I wish....
We all know what these FD's sell for when in this condition. I have looked for a good example for years. Not desperately and actively butting keeping my eyes open. I never come across a good 100% stock low mile example like this and for this price. Put it this way, this was the first car I actually spent the money on an inspection. Last month I watched a 100% stock FD with 30000 Miles in PA sell (and I mean sell, bought, and paid) for $27K. Yes it did have $4K mags on as the only mod and it did not need two black trim parts replaced and the driver seat was perfect but that was the price. I have seen many clean near stock low mile examples sell between $20K and $25K easily but all have had more than 14000 miles. As "finneymc" so kindly put it, the average price for this kind of example is usually in the $25K range. I did not steel the car but I did get a respectable buy for the example I got having paid less than $25k but more than $20K.
Thanks to all of you for the comments and I hope to see you all around at some meets with either this FD or my 74 RX4 Coupe.
Best regards
Max G

You are a bastard and I hate you...
1st Reliability mod you should do: Single Turbo Kit + PFC + radiator + IC + EBC + gauges + Fuel + Tune
Btw- I'll give you $15k for it, cash ready.

Can't edit it
Damm,
I cant edit it.
Price paid was the average price between $20K and $25K. I still think it was a good buy just not a deal for this kind of stock low mile mint example.
thanks

Price and value
IMO I agree and that is why I paid what I paid. IMO the RX7 is a super car for the price of a regular car. Yes its a 93 but it is "new". Almost as if I were buying in 1994 within the first year. It would have been more than $30K in price. These cars seem to have very varying values but that is directly related to their condition.
I am very comfortable with the price I paid and know that if I needed to I could turn around and resell it for at least $25K. Hell I was offered that when when I was looking into it through PM's a couple of months ago by some before the pristine inspection was even done. I agree with your above note.
