Good Deal?

Hey guys, im new to this forum and still havent gotten my RX-7. I was looking at the 3rd gen, which is the model i want, and i came across this.

1993 Mazda RX-7
88,791 miles
Dark Green exterior
Beige interior
$11,000

The carfax looks clean other than a recall. The pics are at my photobucket http://s485.photobucket.com/albums/r...axskater/RX-7/ .

Let me know what you guys think. From what i have seen it is worth it, and if all goes well I should pick it up this weekend.

You'll need to get the health of the engine and check everything over. No one can tell you its a good deal just from some text and a picture or two. The engine could be blown or coolant seals toast, suspension could need freshening, turbos could be trashed, etc...

Check the car out, find out what is or isn't in great shape. Then that will help shape the view of it being a good deal or not.

Exactly what he said. A carfax report doesn't tell you much in regards to the cars overall health. Get someone who knows rx7s to look it over for you or I'm sure some of us on the forum could give you a walk through on what to look for.

Is it just me, or is the shifter taller than normal? Also, the engine bay side of passenger side fender liner looks really shiny....like it has been replaced. Has the car been wrecked & repaired in the front? Other than those two items it appears to be in good shape....not riced out or abused.

Does the car come with all the maintenance/service records?

Carfax has 23 records for this car: http://www.carfax.com/cfm/check_orde...FD3311P0207480

May just be renewals and change of ownerships, but definitely worth checking.

ill definately make sure i look it over completely. based on what i have seen so far, heard, and know from what the dealer said. i would assume that it is at least worth the ride up there to check it out.

Yea I saw that on autotrader. It looks like a clean car from the pics. If everythign checks out, it's an OK deal. I mean if you look around you will be able to find similar cars w/ similar miles for the same price. Difference is the cars for sale on this forum mostly have fresh rebuilt or recently rebuilt engines which is a better deal IMO.
Good luck.

I think its really important that you do a compression test on that bad boy. You have to take it to a rotary specialist to do it right though. If everything checks out and the engine is strong, I would say 11k is pretty damn good.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll see what i can do about the compression test. It is at a dealer, so I'm not sure how well that will fly. Myabe i can ask them if they have done one for that car yet.
