Gonna pull the engine, any help?
I'm going to pull my engine this month, first time I've ever done it to a rotary, and will follow the workshop manual. Any tips on what to ignore from the manual, or anything of the sort? Only going to pull the engine, not the tranny. Looking thru the instructions breifly I saw nothing on the manual telling me how to separate the tranny from the engine, but I'll look again.
I will be shipping the engine to a shop for a rebuild - KD, or Pineapple, what do I take off and what do I leave on?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Ditto that question. I just got my engine hoist a couple of weeks ago and will be doing the same to my FD very shortly. I should prove to be a educational experience. Regarding the separation of the tranny, I would look at the clutch removal and install portion of the manual. That should give you instructions on unbolting the transmission.
removal basic just take everythign off... what i did diff from the manual was just unclip the sensors while the engine was in the car rather than pulling the ecu and pulling the harness through the fire wall.(one less pia to deal with)
to seperate tranny and engine theres 5 or 6 bolts that atach them together remove them and use a long screwdriver to seperate clutch release bearing or you can remove the press plate blots(like if the car was a auto and you were removing torque converter bolts) there 6 bolts on the flywheel
either kd or pinapple or pettit would be my recomendations for the places to get it rebuilt, i dont know if kd is still backed up out the wazoo or not...
give them all a e-mail and see..i think pinapple will be the cheapest

You might want to label some of the unfamiliar wireing harness connectors. I wish I would have drawn a scetch or taken better pics of how the harness snaked around the engine so that it would go back the same way it came out lol I pretty much have it the way it came out but it took a little messing around with.

Just did it...
LEAVE THE TRANNY CONNECTED. There are a bunch of bolts that you have to get to from the tranny service holes which are very hard to get to when you're in the car. Remove the p/s and a/c pump from the block. Disconnect all the i/c and turbo piping. Unbolt the downpipe. Disconnect the clutch cable. unbolt the tranny from the drivetrain. remove the ppf. (vice versa). unbolt the motor mounts.......
We spent about three hours trying to unbolt the tranny form the engine in the car. It took us 15 minutes to unbolt the tranny from the car and take the whole thing out.....
the shop manual doesn't help very much except for torques, but that aluminum doesn' torque very well anyway.....
IMO.

theres 3 bolts on top 1 on bottom and 2 through the starter that hold trans to engine..then its just a matter of idsengaging the throwout bearing.. shouldnt take 10 min but wichever ways easier for you
