If possible, keep the Lift engaged under the car (diff) for extra added security.
Good Luck.

Good Luck with that project. I hear it is a PITA. These pics should help you with jacking points.

Ooops. sorry about that post. I just realized that it does not show rear jacking points. Unfortunately I don't have pics to help you with that.

May not help the original poster, but thanks for the pics anyway! I've been looking for that exact sequence for a while now, pictures are worth a thousand words.

Anybody have pics of the back jack stand points?

Not that hard to do. Took about an hour the first (and only) time I did it. I start with the stock jack as I can't get my floor jack in a good spot. Chock your fronts. And wear goggles or something. Rust and gas in the eyes sucks.

Just put the jack under the pumpkin an jack it up. Put some jack stands anywhere you want just as long as there are supporting the weight of the car and no damaging it you shouldn't have anything to worry about. You're making it harder than you have to. Wear some protective eye wear and purge the fuel system.

Not the way I would have done it.

Put the jack under the diff, not on the side.

And I would have put the jack stands as close to the rear tires as possible, that is as far back on the frame rail that you can.

put a chock in front of the front tires. and what may not be readily evident is that you can get the 10mm filter mounting bolts off with an extension over the rear mouting assembly

when i have undercarrige work to perform that does not involve taking off the wheels, i usually back up onto ramps. Then place stands under the frame rails, just added piece of mind for me.

You can pay to do it and **** off a Mazda technician who thinks it's a gravy filter replacement.

Yeah, but I doubt they would charge you a flat fee to do it. And chances are -- they might not even change it. I have heard on two occasions where someone has brought in their car to have the fuel filter changed at a Mazda dealership; upon inspection, the factory fuel filter with the silver sticker was still on there.
