Going to Rotary Performance for Tune, MP, and Boost leak. Anything else?

Hey All,
So I am headed off to Rotary Performance in a couple of weeks for a boost problem, add a MP, have my PFC tuned on the dyno...Can you think of anything else I should have done while I am there that the average joe shouldn't do himself?

Fuel filter change wouldn't be a bad idea if it hasn't been done in a while.

Yup 3G with stock twins...I am having a funky boost issue after doing my hose job...10-7-8 then drops off slowly to 5....I guess I could take my time and diagnose it myself but I feel like my lower back muscles are getting to big from bending over the engine bay so much...Plus I am getting kinda tired of tinkering and just want to drive it for a change and not mess with anything.

Apnea, I thought I remember seeing your info. saying your from Oklahoma? If so, we got a good crew of FD's that roll around in Okc. Anyways.. let me know what Chris charges for Tuning the PowerFC there cuz I plan on getting one soon and taking it to them to have it tuned properly.. Also, I have a friend locally who has a wideband O2 sensor. -Erick

Cool

Check with Chris before you have your car Dyno Tuned by RP if you are going to need the Datalogit because without it they won't be able to fine tune. I took my car to have it tune with my Power FC and Commander but after a few adjustments for fuel, I was told that I needed to buy the Datalogit for fine tuning. If they are now charging for that service of tuning in the Dyno with their Datalogit then you will have your car fine tuned. If not be ready to shell out about $300 US pesos.
Good Luck.

I asked and they say it's part of the price...hmmmm, hope I didn't give them any ideas by asking about that...Anyway, Chris quoted me $200 for dyno & wideband tuning the PFC.

Ok, I am getting excited!

Later all

what day are you coming to RP on? Are you planning on spending all day waiting on your car at the shop? Let me know what your plans are, and maybe we can set up a lunch or something, if you are interested.

I agree with Mahjik about a fuel filter change if you haven't done it recently, an also a tranny and diff fluid change wouldn't hurt.

Good luck,
David

Leaving Tulsa at like 1 or 2am on Friday the 31st and then will be there for the whole day. Will be me and my cousin. I had the tranny and diff changed about 1200 miles ago with AMS Oil so I think that's ok.

Lunch will be kewl. I really have no plans other than taking a tapas mat and my gameboy. Just that and stare over their shoulders while they work on the car

I'll put it on my calendar, and we can work out details as we get closer to the 31st. I don't think there is much of a chance of watching them work on your car, as their shop is insanely busy, but the waiting area is pretty nice, and your Game Boy should entertain you for a while. I think watching them dyno tune won't be a problem, and that's the cool part anyway!

How long of a drive is it from Tulsa to Dallas?

Your car will have to be cool before they can work on it, especially the exhaust work, so keep that in mind when you arrive that they most likely won't jump right on it.

shoot me a PM with a cell or pager # so I can contact you once you arrive on the 31st.

It's a 5 hour drive from Tulsa with a normal car or an RX-7 with boost issues but probably 4 hours with a working RX-7 and a nice radar detector.

If I leave at 1am then I should get there around 6am so that should give it a couple hours of cool down before they open at 8.

you should have a pm shortly.

Cool

I am happy for you that they can tune your car and you don't have to spend the $$$$ for the Datalogit. Maybe they realized that not too many people are going to tune their cars if they need to buy the Datalogit.
On the looking over the shoulder while they work on your car, I would say, that since they had some 20B engines stolen, they don't allow any customer in the back. Sorry.
Also plan to be there all day since Chris is always busy and will take quite some time to tune your car. I was told that it was better to leave the car for a full day, that Chris did his Dyno tuning at night undisturbed by the on going business.
Trust me all this happend to me and I was asked politely to "GET OUT" of the service area and I know them well.
I am telling you this so that you are prepared for the long day, not to put down RP.
Anyways good luck and happy tuning.

hey apnea, after much research I found out something that you may want to keep in mind for a later date. Apparently, Nelson Nissan Mazda has a 'rotary specialist' that knows the FDs like the back of his hand. I have confirmed this with a couple people.

I doubt they could help with the dyno or anything, but for normal maintenance it might be worth a call. (and if all goes well, i should be joining the FD ranks before long )

damn i didnt know that happend, that really sucks. rp has been so cool with letting people roam around and look at all the rx7's. then someone has got to go ruin it for everybody. oh well

With a lift, gloves and impact tools it really doesn't matter and techs do it all the time. On jack stands and with hand tools its a different story.

apn - let us know if RP solves your boost prob, MP is not gonna help either

Will do...as for the MP, I am going to try it only if they get the boost problem fixed which I hope they do...They way I see it is, I bought this car as a toy and to tinker with it (2000 miles 10 months)...if I drive it with the MP and it seems like it could hurt something then I will just put the cat back on or maybe a HFC....anyway, will be sure to give a review of the service when I get back.
