I have a godspeed VMIC complete kit from rx7store.net for 850 shipped.
I'm running one in vmic configuration and I've made 500hp. It has done a pretty good job, in terms of IAT's (also running water). For the price it's solid.
It's one of those things you want to upgrade at some point but it can be pushed down the list everytime. I've read of others switching to something a little nicer, and have had positive gains from doing so as well.

also, the turbo spools a lot quicker..... Think about it, the air travels through shorter pipes to get into the engine rather than having to travel all the way to the front and all the way back up... Personally, I LOVE how a lolished front mount looks through a bumper so I will be getting that anyway haha

Want to try? Ok, its a simplified experiment, but still...
Take a long metal pipe, like a double vacuum cleaner pipe or something. cork one end. Seal other end around your mouth and suck as much air as you can out of the pipe(like a turbo engine does when its not boosting). Now, blow. How long until you create positive pressure in there and you cant force any more air into it? Like, close to instant, ayeh? Put a gauge on there and see what nagative and positive pressure you can do with lung capasity. If YOU can do it instantly, what do you think a turbo can do, as it provides MUUUCH more air than you?
You went from N/A to boosting in no time... so does the turbo. A few feet of pipe to or from makes a measurable difference yes, but not a usable and measurable difference imo.
If someone has data on it, please provide, as i am curious.

I believe its this one, I bought it about a year ago and had a buddy weld it up to fit perfectly in my car. V Mount Intercooler
I would never put in a FMIC in my fd.
These cars run hot enough as it is. Now in order to properly run a FMIC on an FD you have make sure that you fab enough ducting so the radiator receives fresh air. Otherwise depending on your region, you will easily be seeing 105C+ water temps. **** that... Rad ducting greatly improves water temps, but the truth is that it is not as good as a SMIC or vmount configuration as both receive fresh air directly. If you track your car I'd stay away from the FMIC. If it's just a streetcar then by all means go for it and make sure you have take precautions to keep the car cool.
As a point of reference I have a SMIC and my water temps are 85C solid... Winter or summer. After some spirited driving I may see 90... But Vmount is the way to go. The best of both worlds. Fresh DIRECT air to both radiator AND intercooler.
