Gimme the 411 on restrictor pills

Just wondering ... does every FD have restrictor pills? How many is there? I did a SVH job on my car and never noticed any pills in the lines, but I also didn't look that hard for them. I read while searching for my answer that some guys use Holley carb jets as pills..... good idea? what size would a guy use? Thanks in advance

There should be restictor pills in every FD. I have not done a complete hose job but I do know that there should be pills in the pre-controll line and the wastegate actuator line. I recommend installing a manual boost controller (the Home Depot kind) instead of putting in the wastegate pill. Search on this forumm for how to do it.

also follow this link, it tells you about Holley jets:

It is fine to use Holley jets. It is cheaper than the stock pills. Info on sizing is in the link.

Why do you recommend doing the Home Depot boost controller? Just for the adjustability? Thanks for the help Cow.......

Yes, just for the adjustability. I just thought that while you are down there you could do it. If you are happy with 10-8-10 and want to keep it there for a while (and you don't feel a need to turn it down) then you can go ahead and put the pill/jet in there.

Holley #78 jet in the WG precontrol line should keep boost near stock levels.

Not EVERY FD should have restrictor pills. In 94, Mazda changed the nipple design on the turbos to act as the restrictors. Therefore, a lot of 94s and all 95s do not have restrictor pills.

I don't know about ALL 93s, but mine did.

And yes, I used a 78 jet. With a DP and CB I was seeing boost spiking to almost 14-15lbs...installed the 78 jet and wallah, calmed it right down.

Holley also sells a kit that includes a bunch of different sized jets, you could buy that and try them out and see what works. It's isnt' expensive either...

My buddy has a complete Holley jet kit... and thats exactly what I will do ....
By the way ... If your car allready had pills in it and it was spiking to 14-15 lbs, why did you still put in a jet? I thought removing the retriction lowered your boost back to normal levels. Is a #78 jet a bigger orifice size than a stock pill? Thanks guys.......
