Ghetto mods

I decided to move my Jacob's electronics ignition amp from it's old spot to where the battery sits( battery is going in the storage bin.) Here are a few pix ofthe project. This was done with about $5 worth of steel from a local steel yard. And some misc. nuts and bolts I had lying around. As well assome self-tapping screws (about$5)from LOWES "RACING"

This Is the scrap metal I started with...

then I cut all my peices out with a cutting dics and grinded all the rust off, bent them to my desired shape and drilled the holes.

Then the peices were welded together (try not to laugh too hard at the welds lol)

Test fitting the amp before painting

Painted black

And finally...installed

I still need to wire it back up and simplify/shorten some wires to clean it up, but thats about it. the project didn't take long at all and was very cheap. But I'm happy with the way it turned out. let me know what you guys think.

I'll update this thread later with the brackets I made that allow me to mount my radiator a little lower. I'm about 95% done with that project.

looks good buddy, what cutting disc did you use to cut the steel? I have nightmares finding stuff to cut sheet metal - i have some 0.7mm T304 stainless and nothing seems to work! A jigsaw with a metal blade just gets blunt quick, a carbide cutting disc on a dremel works but gets eaten up very quickly, and an angle grinder just cant cut straight!

i use a band saw with a fine tooth blade made for metal. works wonders on aluminum, never tried it on steel but i'm sure it would work fine with some saw oil and careful pushing. I picked up a 9" Ryobi band saw for $100 at home depot. Definetly worth the money for custom parts :-)

or u can just (carefully) use a cutting torch :-)

Origionaly I was using the radiator brackets supplied with my Greddy FMIC kit but wanted it to sit lower and more upright, The "L" brackets are secured to the frame with self-tapping screws. And are more than enough to hold the radiator steady but I went ahead and made a couple more brackets that hold like the ones in the greddy kit just for added assurance.

^thanx, Now I'm painting the bracket for my FC leading coil. I'll post more pix after I get it installed. I've gotten a couple pm's about my ignition setup so I'll post some better pix of how it's installed.

Well yesterday wasn't as productive as I hoped it would be. I made my coil bracket only to realize I woulnd't fit with my PS hooked up(the tank is leaking to I took it out to replace) So I had to chop up my oridional bracket and reposition it. I'm not too happy with how this one came out but It should serve it's purpose untill I come up with something better.(still needto sand It back down and repaint it.

It's mounted behind the driver side fusebox facing the firewall

BTW this location lets me keep the stock ignition wires
