getting traction with 360rwhp plus

is anyone getting traction in 1st and 2nd gear with 360rwhp and up?? if so what tire are u using? i run toyo t1-s 245s and they are just horible. when i first got them they were an improvement but as miles go on them they seem to be gettign slippier and slippier. it feels like i am on ice now. As soon as the 2nd turbo comes on in either of these gears i lose all traction and it wont be regained until i let off the gas.

I am wondering if the problem is b.c the 245's are too big for the stock rim? or do these tires just suck?

I run Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 - best damn tires I've had to this date.
Check the ratings on Tire Rack, pretty impressive, they were recommended to me by Fikse. Of course I run 275's in the rear which helps

You might need to bite it and get something bigger than the stock rims. 225's or 245's won't cut it for 360+ rwhp. I'm running the same Toyo T1S in 275/35/18 w/ 365 @ the wheels, and it's alot better than you're describing.

Remember, those wheels/tires were spec'd for the car in 1992, and when it had 215 rwhp.

The new falken azenis (615s) are really sticky, I'd recommend the rx7.com traction kit to, real high quality.

It's not a tire brand issue IMO, it's a size issue. You COULD correct it to some extent by running R-compounds or 5k mile gumballs of some sort, but if you're looking to be efficent on a street car, you just need a bigger Max performance street tire.

Nitto 555r's but the Goodyear F1's are great too. What's the widest tire you can get under an fd?

welcome to my world. Try getting traction with over 500whp. The only thing I have found to stick is MT ET streets or Hoosier Quick Time pro drags.

Yup. The only modern "sporting" car I can think of that runs anything near the FD's OE wheel/tire sizes is an S2000 (which have since gone to 17's), and that's a similar weight car w/ only 240 flywheel horsepower.... not 360 or 500 wheel horsepower.

Part of the problem is probably size but I think part of it is also tire stickiness.

I found the Toyo T1S didn't have a lot of overall grip when I had them. I'm not just talking about traction but also overall cornering limit. Awesome tires on the street but the limits were definitely lower than other tires from Michelin and also the Kumho MXs that I'm running now.

Upgrade the rims to fit bigger tires. I had the nitto 555r's (285's) 18 x 10.5 in the back on my supra with 425rwhp it would just squat and go.

I'm using the Toyo Proxes R888's and have no issues when it comes to traction... I'm a little over 400 at the wheels...

I run 255/40/17 Toyo RA-01 on the rear of my car at 400 rwhp and 1st is still useless. I can hook in 2nd if the pavement is warm.

I second the Falken Azeni RT-615. They are hards down the stickiest street tires I've used though I'd think twice about driving it in heavy rain at anything over 15mph under the speed limit.

I got a simple solution: RACELOGIC Prob the best traction control system available...AND available at a STEEP discount for a limited time courtesy of our GB here: https://www.rx7club.com/fdnewbie-imports-172/gb-racelogic-674843/. Has options for full-throttle shifting (flat shifting) AND launch control, in addition to the ability to limit the amount of slip (between 0% - 20%), plus datalogging capabilities. Bada$$ if you ask me...

I run Michelin pilot sport 2's and they are great. Granted i only have 310rwp, but i get traction fine in first gear even, let alone second!

Tire size is 255/35/18 though...

the rx7.com traction setup is for launching.

what i am concerned about is street use. i guess i need new rims with atleast 275s. what are u guys liking ion a 17inch rim? i am more traditional than something overly fancy.

I hook up in all gears even on 255/40 R17s, even first. I think its my stock suspension that sets the weight down on the rear tires.

If i do any sort of launch then i need my ET Streets. 1.5x 60's feel pretty good.
