Question getting the car to run cooler.. any ideas?

I live in texas where its pretty hot getting close to the 100's. lately I have been somewhat concerned about recent water temps on these hot days.

what kind of temps are other 93 up people seeing? around town, i get
upper 180's that creep up into the mid 190's on the highway i am seeing
around 190-194f

any ideas on how to make the car run a little cooler?
my current setup for things that matter.

new motor -(in breakin period)-
older style greddy front mount intercooler.
new Koyo alum. radiator.
new 180 degree thermostat
fans on high speed.

maybe this is not to hot, but i would like to get it down in the 180's

I was thinking blocking in the excess space around the radiator to force all the air in.
Maybe upgraded cooling fans?

i would like to at least compare what others temps are. I know my frontmount is probably a big factor in this. I would be interested to see
What kind of temps other front mount users have and others with the standard mount IC car temp wise runs.

also would be interested to see what othesr air temps are with the 2 diff IC configs. on the highway just cruising I am getting 104-110f airtemp what kind of air temps are others getting?

thanks for any input.
sorry if this has been done befor but could not find much on search.

thanks,
James

Personally, I think the temps. your maintaining in that environment if incredible. 100 degree ambient and only 190/195 water temp. Fans can only remove so much heat from the water. Don't forget , if running stock thermostat etc, I would think temps 195/200 normal.
If you feel a lower water temp is necessary, go to a larger radiator, more coolant, if there is one available.

I think those temps are excellent especially with a FMIC. I on the other hand am getting up to 210-213 in bumper to bumper traffic these days. Bothers me immensly, especially with a trip to the track this saturday! Going to flush coolant friday and put in Evans!

I also mad the change to synthetic this week and have seen about 5 degrees lower since. I am also running the Koyo but everything else is stock.

Going to have to work on this cooling thing this week before I blow my engine saturday.

Living and loving life with my rotary!

Just so you know, blocking any holes around the radiator, where air can "escape" around the rad rather than going through it, will make a *huge* improvement. Before I did this I would be cruising on the highway at 80mph running water temps of about 230F (110C)...which is way way too hot, obviously. Now on a similar 100+ degree day I'm running about 196F (91C) or a little lower.

Don't underestimate the usefullness of your rad ducting (and the belly pan)!

Ice ice baby

If you can't afford Evans coolant, try a bottle of Royal Purple Ice (or Red Line Water Wetter) and 60%-70% distiled water.

I should have put that as well. I am running the Royal Purple Ice and distiled water.

i just put the purple ice in my car yesterday, but from the stock temp guage, i can not tell that it works. i have an AM c/f temp guage to install, but have not yet....

does it really work?

This right here does make a big difference, but you block the holes to keep hot air after the radiator from re-circulating back to the front of the radiator...

...Either way, it helped out my water temp from 95 celsius(with ambient air at around 31C) to 85 C. I have a stock radiator with FMIC. The trick is that I also have the datalogit from Glen in New Zealand, and have turned my fans on high at 80 Celsius.

the belly pan I had no difference in water temps.

i remember reading somewhere on this forum that water wetter and royal purple ice are bad?? and that the extended life coolant is bad too. I'm not sure why though.

Also, a vented hood would do wonders as well. I wouldn't be suprised to see underhood temps be reduced drmatically.

I've run water wetter before with no problems.

the vented hood will do wonders for underhood temps. Also doing this, you won't have to worry about blocking off the front of the car with foam.
