To get or not to get?
To get or not to get?
Well I have always wanted a 7 ever since I was 11 right now i am 15. I have studied everything I can and know what's wrong with the engine and how to fix it. I just wanna kno if you guys still thnk I should get it, I live in west palm bch, FL, basically I live 15min away from pettit racing. I know its not a safe investment but I am willing to put all my time and money (which I don't have much of) into this project. And the insurance is covered. If i cant get this I would like to get the SRT-4, WRX, or Evo VIII, if these are better please tell me. THANKS Jonathan
Ok, you are on an RX7 forum and you are asking RX7 owners if another car is better than theirs?
What will be your source of money for parts should something break (and something will)?

you're not sure if you have enough money to maintain an old FD yet you are also considering an EVO...
it's funny how that kind of makes sense :p
buy a new/er car - it makes so much more sense for you

Ok, if you want this to be your daily driver then it will take your time and it will take your money. Consider getting a cheap reliable daily driver before purchasing a 3rd gen.

The chances of becoming a grease spot on the pavement will go up DRASTICALLY if you buy something like this.
get a few years of driving under your belt.

A 15 year old driving an FD................ excuse me........................ (goes out back and shoots shelf in head). Took me 2 years to get this car, and had been longing for one for 5 years.

Let's clear one thing up though. It's not that it isn't a safe investment, it isn't an investment period. It's an asset, a depreciating asset. I'd like to think it will be depreciating less rapidly than other cars though! Again, kudos to you. I didn't think about investments when I was 15.
Generally speaking, the FD will require more time, patience, maintenance and budget than a 15 yr old will have. The flip side is you don't have rent, mortgage, insurance, kids, family etc etc. Little debt and time might be on your side while you learn.
If the possibility of your car going down for long periods of time doesn't bother you, you feel like your responsible enough to maintain and drive an FD when your 16, and you have your parents blessing, get the FD.

Just a thought: if from 16-19 you put $2k/year into a Roth IRA and get good returns, you will have hundreds of thousands when you retire, even if you PUT NOTHING ELSE INTO IT, EVER. Start again at 25 and put in 2k/year until you retire, you'll have over a million.
Once you turn 25, if you put 2k or 3k in per year for 40 years, you won't have half as much. At 25 you'll still be able to get a nice car for fun, maybe something even nicer than an FD (gasp - I said it out loud).
That my friend, is investing.
