General FD questions..

I got a 93 R1 with these performance mods:

HKS super drager exhaust
HKS superflow intake
Bonez SS downpipe
Greddy SMIC
M2 Pulley kit..

Thats all i have so far in performance mods.
I do realize I need an ECU upgrade.

I purchased 2 PeterFarrell Purple boxes last year, One used from the internet and new from peter Farrell himself. Needless to say NEITHER of them worked.
on the GAS , both kept hitting the FUEL cut off.
PF couldn't fix it nor even told me why.

WHY doesn't the PMC not eliminate the fuel cut off on MY RX7?? Anyone one know WHY and how to FIX?? I have friends with PF Purple boxes and it works fine. is my ECU screwed up or something??

So anyone advise me on which ECU upgrade to get??
M2 Stage 3 or Pettite?? Reason I am choosing between those two is because of the $$$$$$.
I would love to have the haltech to...
And is the Apex Power FC and commander worth the extra $$$? or anyone got one for sale ????

Is it true the M2 Stage 3 and Pettite ECU upgrade. gives no Horsepower or performance?? I hear it just makes your car run safe ,but doesn't give any performance is this true???

One more question, Sorry for long post...

On some Hard launches, my car feels like the wheels are hoping.. Is this a sign i am about to rip my rear end out? what making it do that? and how do i fix it??

I just bought a used M2 Stage III ECU. I didn't feel any hp gains. I feel a whole lot better having it in, though.

Personally I like when the wheels match the exterior color of the car:

Well I can't answer your question about the purple boxes, but if you have the extra $$$ the Apexi PFC is well worth it. The Haltech is an excellent unit as well, but with installation and tuning it cost a significant amount more than the Apex unit. The PFC is super easy to install, allows you monitor exactly what is going on with the motor, and gives you tons of headroom for future mods and the necessary tuning for it. It is the only thing that has been proven to rid the FD of the 3k hesitation that I know of. Hitting fuel or boost cut is also a built in safety measure, if you slapped in an ECU that did not have it you would be much more likely to blow your motor. I think your problem lies somewhere other than the PMS purple box. Do you have a boost controller of any kind? Do you have a boost gauge? Blaming the problem on the ECU may be a bit hasty without diagnosing your problem some more, or giving us more information to help you.

PFS doesn't make the box, they just put a sticker on it and plug in maps for the RX7.
EFI makes the box.

I agree that the POWER FC is a great way to go. Even so, we have two identical cars with identical mods with Power FC's. The MAPS were also ordered identical. The results on the DYNO were completely different (280RWHP from one car and only 225 RWHP from another). After adjustments on the DYNO, both cars were in a similiar HP range of 315 - 325 RWHP. I would NEVER trust preset MAPS from anyone. Most cars will have different results. Get yourself a POWER FC and get the car on a DYNO and adjust MAPS accordingly.

Thanks Guys for the response..

Hmm well I shelled out 1k for the new purple box that didn't work. I guess I could shell out another 2hundred to get the PowerFC. but hmmm.. that was last year.. and I spent the $$$.. Oh well..

Ryan/dave yea, when we were messing with the Purple box. we did set the Fuel cut off but didn't work.. From Ryan Dave Me, Peter Farrel and Ray. couldn't get it to work..

Dave you still got the extra ECU?? i may be interested..
Let me know..

Ryan n Dave, are their any Dyno's around here we can Dyno our cars on?? I would like to know for sure how much HP my car is making and be able to tune it after i mess with the ECU upgrade..
Rx7InfoMan is right.. If you want it done right
Do it yourself....

Oh yea..

Ryan,

Hey maybe thats why my motor and turbo lasting so Long.. ECU never let the turbo's boost past 12psi.
andif it did. It cut off the FUEL. = )

Hmmm not sure if its a good thing or not..

But it never did that until I put ont he PFS purple box..

before then i basically drove it Kindly.. Slow and Perping. haha Hmm well maybe i did that because my vacuum hoses were all shot to death and didn't get any boost. and any boost I did get IT shot out the intercooler couplings that had big giant HOLES in them. hence " slow " slow" so drove it slow for a while..
