Gen3 Models?

i was wondering if there are ways to tell whether a car is r1 or r2 etc...w/o a manual? i'm going to take a look at gen3 yellow with black interior. would there be a way to tell for certain? and the guy told me there's no info card on the driver side door. that leads to make me think it's been in an accident before and had to had the door replaced. will the year and model of the car be lost w/o manual and the info plaque?

cheers,
kent

hey this is easy, an r1 will have a brace going over the engine! Plus, they are all manual. if you drive it, it will be as stiff as a board as apposed to a touring or base cpe. oh ya, check the vin or post it

Actually, it's way easier than that. The Competition Yellow Mica only came on one model ... the 1993 R1's. Pop the hood, check the engine bay, and check the door jambs just to make sure the car wasn't just painted yellow.

also, the R1/R2s have a suede like interior seats, dual oil coolers, no bose, no sunroof, no cruise control, and the front/rear spoilers. And the strut bar you mentioned.

Also, it should not have a rear wiper. This is one of the most easily recognized external differences.

Also, you will want to check to see if it has dual oil coolers. All R1/R2 packages had dual instead of single oil coolers.
