Gauging interest on a V-Mount setup

I am making a V-Mount setup for my 240sx and if all turns out good, I will be selling them. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in one for the 3rd gen rx7? I wouldn't have it together for a while, because I would have to use somebody else's rx7 to make the prototype on, because mine has a 3 rotor, and it wouldn't be the same for the 2 rotor. I would probably go with a koyo or similar aluminum rad and the biggest intercooler core that I could fit. If anybody doesn't know what a v-mount is, check out rotary extreme's here... http://www.rotaryextreme.com/monstervmount.html .

It would be a lot cheaper than the ones that the big name companies sell (like half the price), beacuse I don't have much overhead. Just me and my garage, hehe.

Most of us have Koyo's or the like. If you fabed up an IC with piping, and a kit to mount it and remount the koyo, for say ~800-1000 bucks, they would sell like hotcakes. I think most everyone agrees, that V mount is the best for stret applications, but they are way to expensive. Especially wyhen you have to buy the whole kit, and most of us already have ~400 bucks already in our radiators. Enable us to use our existing Rad, and keep the price low, and you will sell a ton.

Thanks for the input! I could offer 2 different kits: one with the rad and one without.

I would definately have interest if it was a complete kit including mounting, piping, and ducting as well as I could also keep the A/C.

I'd be interested.
An extra $1,000+ for a radiator vs. the price of front mount kit is hard to swallow.

what if you mounted the intercooler on the bottom? if you did this you wont have to mod the radiator all you would need is the plumming for the cooent. also the intercooler would be in more of a front mounted position. i dont know its just a thought.

Its going to be hard for the average person to use thier existing radiator for a V mount without cutting up and redoing the endtanks and inlet/outlets.

You can always sell the radiator, the difference between what you sell your current radiator for and what you pay for a new one designed for V mount shouldn't be all that much....it would be worth the extra for have something thats designed to work right instead of spending a ton of time and energy hacking something togehter.

Also guys, core design is everything just because one certain FMIC can be sold for $900 doesnt mean much...there are other FMIC's that are 50% more than that. The core makes a big difference in price, especially if you want the best.

i have never tried to fit the radiator in but i think if you mount it on top of the intercooler you might not have to hack the rad. with the fans and pipes on the top side you might be able to just run some hoses. the only problem i can think of off hand is clearing to hood. but if it worked then we could all keep the radiators we have.

It would be harder to put the radiator on the top and make it fit and look right because of the 4" tall fans that are attached to them

wow, I haven't check the fourm in a couple days. This thread grew a little, haha. I don't know about mounting the rad up top. I could give it a try. My friend just bought a 93, so I could use his to measure off of to make the prototype (I don't think I can fit a v-mount with my 3 rotor). Like I said before, it won't be any time soon when these get made. I just wanted to gauge some interest on the idea. Thanks for all the ideas everyone!

BUMP!
I'm deffinately interested in a v-mount set up that doesn't break the bank. I'd love to have RE's but don't want to spend that kind of money on it. Do you have a design setup yet?

The only problem I see with just making a Intercooler kit, is that all v-mounts have the radiator hose ends located on one side of the rad. Nots ure how much of a problem that would pose....
