Gauge Cluster / Rev Counter
Gauge Cluster / Rev Counter
Hi,
My rev counter gauge died. (it always stays at zero)
Is there a place where I could purchase a new rev counter gauge that I could replace mine (with stock gauge cluster and stock ECU) ?
I need of course the gauge with all its electronics.
Regards.

Not sure if there is anyone in Europe that does it, but Michael Gagné is in Canada and he is the man when it comes to repairing FD Clusters. Send him a message on Facebook and see what he says.
Thank you for your reply.
This is an interesting option.
Do you have a link on his profile by any luck ?
If you know a place where I could purchase a gauge cluster or individual gauge (with electronics) please let me know.
The goal is to avoid to have the cluster be shipped overseas.

I quickly took a look at the buyee site and saw a few clusters available. But I didn’t see any individual tach’s. I did see 1 Speedo, but no tachs. However, you can always get an entire cluster and take the tach from it. Cheapest cluster I saw was $460CDN. Not too bad all things considered.
now if you’re looking to get an upgraded cluster, that’ll start to cost you more.
It's worth going ahead and shipping your cluster to Michael Gagne for repair. He won't just fix the tach, he will fix EVERYTHING and future proof it. They will all have odometers that stop, tachs that don't work, polarizer on the odometer goes bad, etc. He will sort it all out, test it all, and get it back to you quickly.
He's done hundreds at this point if not more and is an expert on them and charges a very fair rate.

I completely agree. But if the person is all the way in Paris and doesn’t want to tear apart the car to have it disassembled for a long period of time, getting a replacement tach would be easier to do. This way you can quickly tear into the cluster, replace the gauges you need, and reassemble it without any real down time.
Especially if the person has never torn into the dash before. That’s the most time consuming part of this whole operation. Once the cluster is out, super easy to replace the gauges.

Michael just did my cluster not too long ago. He's done others in the months since. He's building a new shop (or somesuch) so I think the only thing he's not doing right now are things like CPU#2 and the like. He has said he'll do those again later this year.
Probably the least expensive route is to send the whole cluster to Mike.
Another alternative is to buy a non-functioning one (look for at C$250) and get it fixed.
Then swap the repaired one in and send your existing for repair as well.
Sell one of the two repaired ones and end up at net zero cost.
As there is a strong chance you sun soaked gauge hood wil crack, have a plan to replace it as well.
