Gauge cluster interchangeable?

Can the gauge cluster of an automatic FD be used in a manual FD or vice-versa? I don't see why not, but are the electronics any different?

The gauge cluster for the auto has the tach redlining at 7k rpm and also has the auto gear indicators. I would think that those two items would make the swap unacceptable.

also the gears are diffrent: auto has 3.9 and 5speed has 4.1, so your speedo would be off. not sure about the electronics.

ah good call - I didn't realize that, but it makes sense. Even if it worked I forgot about the redline...thanks for the good information. I ask because I'd like one day to do a 99 conversion with white gauges and the boost gauge (although not that useful)...more for the style than anything.

Not a perfect situation but the auto cluster will work in a manual car as far as mating goes. R light even lights up when in reverse.

The Speedos are the same - The auto trans uses a different sender to compensate for the diff rear end ratio - all the Speedos are calibrated to 4130 pulses/Mile iirc. The Clusters are Identical except for the TACH, the AUTO Tach is marked w/ the red zone starting at 7000 rpm (vs 8000rpm) and has the gear indicators in the face, the Auto cluster also has an extra connector on the back that provides the gear indications, that connection is blanked off by the printed circuit on the Manual Clusters - The Printed circuits on the back of the cluster also vary w/ model w/ some additional resistors & jumpers for cars w/ Cruise etc.

fwiw I have extensive first hand knowledge of the FD Inst cluster as I have installed 3 Autometer Gauges in Mine, See this thread for more Info & Pics : https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=199139
