Gaskets for installing engine block?
I've a BNR block ready for install, but I'm in need of lots of gaskets, and want to make sure I have everything I'll need.
Here's what my mechanic listed for me - if there are "official" names for any of these let me know!
- O-Rings for fuel injectors
- Oil filter gasket
- Lower front housing cover gasket (oil return for turbos?)
- Upper front housing cover gasket
- All oil return line gaskets
- Front water pump housing-to-block gasket
- Thermostat-to-water pump housing gasket
- Turbo-to-exhaust manifold extension housing gasket
- Water fill gasket
- Back of intake-to-block gasket
- All turbo gaskets
I also need to replace the motor mount which has what appears to be a heat shield attachment on it.
Are there any other gaskets anyone can think of that I'll need, or may need? I need to order these Tuesday morning so I can get them here ASAP!
Thanks in advance,

There's 2 small/thick rubber "O" rings under oil filter adapter.

Recommend you replace your copper crush gaskets on the oil lines, the oil metering pump, Oil Cooler(s) feed & return lines.
I also need to replace the motor mount which has what appears to be a heat shield attachment on it.
Unless this Motor Mount is toast (it's the one on the Passengers side...black color) forget about it. The heat shield is fastened by X 3 10mm bolts. Usually, the Drivers Side Mount (should be aluminum) is the one that goes bad. That the thrust side of the engine it gets all the abuse, fails & needs periodic replacement.

Yeah... Replace the short(3" long) hydraulic hose (on the underside of your power steering assist pump... It's 5/8ths Dia." hose (Special Hydraulic, High pressure, rated @ 255psi, I think...or something like that) ... they usually become brittle and stiff and start to leak... Mazda used those "wire hose clamps" that dig into it...
Thanks in advance,

Hey Karken, thanks...as far as the motor mount goes, the one I described already has a crack in it. It's been completely soaked by oil and I guess has weakened over time because of it.
For anyone else, yes, I have a rebuilt engine to drop in, and I'm not doing it myself!

Do not try to use the descriptions your mechanic gave you when you go to order these gaskets. Here is what you need.
1)Gasket Set (8DF7-13-111) Includes 2 exhaust manifold gaskets, Lower Intake Gasket, Upper Intake Gasket, Pre-cat gasket, OMP O-ring (1 ea.)
2)Turbo Gaskets (N3A1-13-710 & N3A2-13-710) (1 ea.)
3)Oil Gaskets (N3A1-14-293) (4 ea.)
4) Oil Gasket (N3A2-14-293) (1 ea.)
5) Turbo Inlet/Outlet Gaskets (N3A1-13-712) (4 ea.)
Good luck.
Jeff

Thanks, Jeff...but they're already ordered. If nothing else this will be a good reference for future searches

I ordered a full engine gasket kit from Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development. It includes EVERY GASKET needed to seal everything in the motor/turbo swap. After my motor install, I had a handful gaskets leftover--mainly the front cover, oil pan, water pump, and internal engine seal gaskets, plus a few "black" gaskets that weren't used. The cost was $376 for the full kit. You should consider replacing your engine's main wiring harness. Due to age, the wiring insulation may have cracked beyond repair. The wiring harness is $476 from Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development.

So does that kit have exhaust gaskets, turbo gaskets, and all intake gaskets? Just curious. Do you have a part number for the set and a list of exactly what comes with it?
Thanks,
Jeff

the new policy at Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development is that they only sell to qualified RACE teams/Car owners - you must compete with reconized Clubs &/or Sanctioning Bodies at least twice/year, and provide race results &/or time slips, to be Qualified. This differs from Mazda Compitition's previous policy of selling COMPITITION (Non OEM) parts to anybody that wanted them.
