Which gas to use?

Well today i was in chem class and we were talking about how some gas stations use ethonal in their gases since it burns differently or some ****. Which is the best gas station to get gas at? I always use Cheveron but is there other places that have better gas for FD's?

actually sunoco supplies alot of the ne gas stations with gas.(delta, wawa, exxon, mobil) it's just that the gas they supply these stations with doesn't have the additives that sunoco puts in them. sunoco actually has two big refineries in the area, marcus hook and philly.

I have to import octane100 pure gas from Japan myself for my old FC

But for my present FD I just go with any octane 95 from any station at all. (Octane 95 is the highest number of octain avilable around here)

Hey can you tell me where these gas stations are located at? I hear that one near Fremont off of Calaveras has a 76 that pumps 94?

Thanks.

I use 94 whenever i can make it over to sunoco. It's pretty cheap at the one i go to. 1.57 a gallon. A station about 10 miles from my house pumps 116 if you ask them and 100, but that is like 4.40 a gallon. I don't even wanna imagine what 116 costs.

There is a 76 station in San Jose that has Pump 100 octane race gas, it's on the corner of Almaden Expy and Hillsdale. I really like to get 10 or 12 gals or 91 and then top off the tank with 100 and do some quick turns and the whole tank will be full of about 96 or 97 octane.

just thought all you bay area seven's might want to know about that.

since when does shell not fall in the catagory of all gas stations?

if you call the customer service line for Union 76 (UNOCAL) or VP racing fuels or TRICK racing fuels they will gladly tell you where the closest place to fill up/purchase products.

There is a Texaco really close to me in OC with VP Motorsport 103 on the pump, but its pricey.. When I knoe Im gonna hammer on the car, or its really hot,I usually put a 20$ in and fill it up the rest of the way with 91

several UNOCAL with 98 octane fuel around as well

You can get Trick and VP racing fuel from most performance offroad shops, in 5 gallon buckets.

Yayer...there is a Sunoco right down us-23 from you at exit 49. Plus it'd be a fun drive just to fill up your tank.

Which exit is 49, is that Plymouth Road?

In CA only 76 has ethanol in their gas. This will change next year when most companies change from MTBE to ethanol. MTBE is being banned.

Stay away from the cheap gas (marathon, speedway, clark, BP) because they have the lowest concentrations of deposit control additives. This means your injectors are more likely to build up a deposit (get dirty) along with the rest of your engine.
Shell, Mobil, Exxon, Unocal all have higher than normal levels of additives.

It is best not to run one brand of gas all the time instead use 2 or 3 different brands. This is because different brands use different additive chemistries. These different chemistries each have their advantages. One may be better at keeping injectors clean while another may keep the apex seals clean.

Just my 2 cents based on making a living testing fuels and their effects on injector durability.

Personally I go with Chevron because its probably the best around. 91 is the highest rating you can get anywhere around here without spending all kinds of money on actual racing gas.

No problems or anything and my car runs extremely smooth, so I'll keep using it.

One time there was nothing else open and I had to resort to using cheap gas, it was like 91 octane Arco or something and I could actually tell a difference, I felt sorry for my car!

Interesting - and I certainly defer to your superior knowledge as a professional, but don't you think that all gasoline is pretty much the same (except for octane), and that as a consumer, I should just go out and buy the cheapest available? (And no, I am not being sarcastic, and yes, I am ignorant).

I can't think of one problem that I have ever had with a car (that I know of...) that could be traced back to gasoline. Seriously, I respect your opinion.

I think foreign (non-USA) countries rate octane differently than we do. www.autospeed.com has many articles making mention of 98 or higher octane gas like it is nothing special.

Here in good old cheese country I usually get 93 Mobil. We use corn juice (ethanol) in our gas.
