I think this will be a much better salution, and will be alot cheaper than buying a hole new tank.

So, the plate is designed to keep the fuel in that plastic piece? Makes a little sense.

So that tank was the 95 tank that you purchased? and it looks almost identical to the 93 you already had. So it was 96+ that they updated the baffles?

You can't buy different year tanks from Mazda. The one he bought is the latest version. They didn't make any other changes than what I stated already. The baffle over the plastic box.

I think the above poster was asking if there are any other changes, maybe to the later gas tanks 96+. I am curious as well.

The only other difference I can see is that the baffle that sits over the rear part of the bucket is pushed a little farther back on the 95+ tank. This makes it easier to install and remove the bucket cover which has a tab on the very back. I actually didn't even see this in my 94 tank with the pictures I took because it was hidden behind the baffle. But I checked again today and there is definitely one there!

For comparison, the 95+ tank

Thanks for posting such great pics!

Oh, BTW, I am working on productizing the cover that oorx7 posted above. I'm working on a solution that will work for all FD tanks including the 93 and mid-94 tanks that don't have tabs on the surge bucket. I'm working with a small group of beta testers and hope to have some results in the next few weeks. If these are positive, I'm going to do a small run of these as a kit.

I'm going to post more on this soon. It will be posted at this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...7&page=1&pp=15

You can read my own test results there. The short version is that I ran down below 1/4 tank at Laguna Seca on R-compound tyres with no starvation issues at all.

I updated the other thread, but I wanted to post here as well to keep everyone in the loop.

---

I wanted to update everyone on the progress with the surge tank cover I designed. I'm shipping out a small number of them to beta testers this week, hoping to get some good feedback in the next few weeks. I've made a number of updates to the design that make it more effective and easier to install in both 1993 as well as 94+ cars.

Stay tuned,

-ch

Okay, updates!

I've made a few design improvements during the beta test period (which is still ongoing) and I want to thank my testers for their input. We had a successful test of the cover in another car this weekend, and there will be a few more data points in the next week or so. The test car was able to run below 1/4 tank without starvation issues on a roadcourse.

I'm waiting on some parts from a supplier, but we're getting very close to the point where I can start a production run. I don't forsee any major issues so with that in mind, I'm going to contact the rx7club.com admins and get permission to do a group buy.

Again, there may be a few changes based on feedback from the beta test group, but I think we're pretty close.

I'll probably end up doing this... what is the black piece under the sheet metal? Is it just a rubber sheet used as a seal?

Hey all,

I've gotten some positive feedback from the beta test group, and I've had quite a few requests for this so I'm posting the official group buy here:

See you there,
