Gas pedal stuck (down)
So tonight on my drive home after class I about crapped my pants.
I was in the right lane and saw a car comming on the up-ramp. Cars are behind me and to my left, so my natural reponse is to speed up and give space behind me. I drop to forth and after 90 I left of the gas. Gas pedal stays down and soon I'm doing 110+. Hitting the brakes slowed me down a little, meanwhile I'm tapping the gas pedal trying to "un-stick" it. Nevertheless a somewhat scary incident.
What would cause the pedal to stick down like that?

I removed the throttle cable, but did not remove the cruise cable. I didn't notice it binding when I reattached it. I did turn the throttle by hand after reattaching to test, but it worked normally.
I had something similar happen with my cruise control cable a while back. Pull the cable out at least on the engine side and lube it up a little. Since mine was the cruise control I was able to use some good lithium grease, but you may have to use WD-40 or some other kind of liquid oil/grease to have it move a little more freely.
First off, it won't be with the gas pedal itself and probably not the cable. Binding problems like this are usually on the throttle body itself, the linkage sticking or binding against something that is keeping it from returning to closed.
Have you done anything to the throttle body mod-wise, like remove throttle plates, thermowax, etc.? If the thermowax isn't removed correctly the leftover linkage on the TB can bind up - had that happen on an old FC back in the day.

The only mod I've done to the TB is the TB coolant bypass, but that was about 2 months ago, and no problems previously.
I did remove the TB cable linkage during the weekend so I could remove the UIM and install a leading coil pack. I've removed it all before (so it wasn't my first time), and haven't had this problem before. I haven't had a chance to check everything over yet, but will tonight.
Yesterday when the pedal was sticking, it wasn't a consistent problem. I had gone WOT several times previously without sticking so there's a gremlin in there somewhere.

How about the floor mat catching it?
One time after putting the spring clip back onto the map sensor hose located near the fast idle cam mechanism, it caught the mechanism and would not let it close 100%.
I had to rotate the clamp 180 degrees to prevent it happening again.
Luckily I checked my TB movement after messing with it and before driving.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
The culprit was the end of a zip tie for the vacuum hose on the back of the UIM (going to the map sensor) catching on the throttle body linkage. It would only catch at WOT, so a "basic" function test would'nt have detected it like when I tested the other day.
Chalk it up to a rookie mistake...make sure your zip ties on vacuum lines don't get in the way.

I was waiting for someone to mention this LMAO!
That does sound pretty scary though. You need to share your experience in this thread
