Gas hood support?

Alright, I had this idea today...

How hard would it be to install gas-charged struts to support the hood (similar to the way the hatch works)? I came upon this idea, cause a friend has these on his 94 thunderbird. Sometimes, the FD hood has a small tendancy to get a little warm, and it can be a pita to lift the prop on the hood after its been running for a while. Right now, I sometimes have to use gloves or a rag to grab ahold of the hood and support.

Has anyone actually done this? I dunno, just kind of a silly idea I had, I guess. What do you guys think about it?

I remember those

I've seen them advertised in a magazine before but can't find the ad. I can't remember who made them.

Just put a downpipe on the car and it will cool it down enough to not burn your hand.

Yeah, I figure the downpipe will help with that. I still just thought that having gas supports would be kind of cool.

GoRacer: if you see the ad, or remember where it was, let me know. I personally have never seen anything, so maybe they don't make them anymore?

I have thought about this also, but for my honda, just for something different (and to help with my lazyness) Autozone sells the little gas shock things. Just buy do some measuring, and im sure you could custom make one. I know it would work on the honda, as it has a little half inch rim going almost all the way down both sides, and when its closed, has enough space to hold a gas shock between the rim and closed hood.
