In which direction does the arrow on the gas filter inline with the MAP sensor go? Does it point to the Motor or the MAP? I read in the manual that it points towards the motor, but I am being told by a buddy of mine that it goes the other way. Also, does a gas filter act the same as a check valve? Thanks for the help.

I think the idea is that the contaminants will be on the manifold side of the filter. If you flip it around, then the dirty stuff will get to the sensor.

 

Even filters have flow directions (i.e. have you ever changed your house air filter? It has a flow direction).

 

so, would that mean that you should be able to blow through it either way? Or is it still a one way operation? I should have to blow in the direction of the arrow in order to blow through it, or will it work either way? I know a check valve can only be blown in that 1 direction.

 

You should be able to blow through it both directions. However, proper filtration will only happen in one direction.

 

So it actually does nothing more than filter the air in and out of the sensor. I am being told that it is a check valve that only provides boost to the MAP. But from my understanding it should need to see both. It's hard to convince this guy once he gets something in his head.

 

yes, it has to see vacuum as well...how else will a FI car run properly?

 

Which matters more getting it in the car correcly or (this guy's head) it's your car. Like Majik said even house air handler unit filters have a flow direction. If you've been running it one way on your car for awhile if you just turn it around all the crap that was on the manifold side will be blow into the sensor when you boost the first time, so either leave it as is or buy a new one and install it like in the vacuum diagram.

I don't believe so...the orientation shown in the vacuum diagram puts the arrow towards the motor.

I was wandering the same think the other night when I was looking at that picture and the on on my car was pointing the other way toward the sencor.
