ok, this is probably a stupid question, but i just got my first Rx7 and it was shipped without any gas in it. As i have none of the manuals or anything, does it take any type of gas in particular (octane #).

 

Use the highest octane rated street gas you can get. It's insurance against detonation, which is one of the two most common ways (the other is overheating due to a cooling system failure) to kill a rotary engine.

We live by 93. You''ll be buying alot wether you drive her alot or not.

 

I put in only Sunoco 94. When I'm not near a Sunoco, I never buy from cheap or generic gas stations. This is because I know a trucker who will scare the s**t out of you with stories about all the different brands/gas stations that instructed him to dump 87 in all of their tanks (yes, including the 93). I figure with the extra advertising Sunoco does about their 94 and that they only sell their own gasoline, there is a much lower risk of that happening with the Ultra 94. But there is no way to know.

Because piston engines don't blow up because of it, the station managers think it's no big deal and nobody checks it.

Exactly correct. Luckily you and I both live where we can get Sunoco 94-octane (Ultra?). I'd bet at least half of the FD apex seal detonation failures are due to crappy and/or mislabled gas.

 

They should do an investigation then. With the way the prices are now (heck, even before they were this high), that is INTOLERABLE.

I'd love to do a sting operation on that BS.

 

amen. I use only brand name gas in mine, I go to Texaco and use only that, I was told they use the chevron techron in their pumps. thats the best I can do up here in Colorado. Unless I go purchase a drum of race fuel. hey not a bad idea!! anybody done that?

 

The house I lived in as a kid had a gas pump, and it worked.

I'm looking to buy a farm in the next few years - if it has a pump, you can bet I'm having it filled with the super-special stuff

Will gas not loose octane over time? I do not drive my car that much but i do have a 500 gallon gas tank that we used on the farm for the tractors. If it does not loose octane real fast then i might buy some clean the tank and fil it up? I only live by 91 but i usualy drive to the big city and feel the car with 93. Only about a 45 min drive. then buy the time i get back it is time to go there and fill it up again.

 

^^no however if you have a tank of lets say 500 gallon capacity and its filled half way, you can sure bet ya **** that over time condensation will build..and thats never a good thing..

thats why im trying to have my gas tank full always..especially now since its winter..
