GA G*# D@^^N Emissions can't find my RPM?!!!!

I have this issue every year!
This time I have gone to FIVE emissions stations and NONE OF THEM can get an RPM of less than 1400 at idle, and the battery/cigarette lighter detection gets ZERO (0) RPM.

BONE STOCK 1995 RX7
nothing is broken, works 100%.

what the actual HAIL does one have to do to get this thing tested?!

Well, you are near Jim Dowling's Mazmart, and down the 75 is Mazcare, and there is always Jim Ellis Mazda. All of them can probably find the rpm on an RX-7 and/or recommend a test station that can.

That's a problem with a lot of emissions inspections stations, many systems miscount ignition pulses for rotary engines. I had to go to a few here in CA before I found one that could read my car.

Yessir I am, I also work with Mazmart myself.

I am told there is a test lead off the trailing coil but i cannot find it.
I think that its only on the FC and not the FD coils.

Each emission station only has 3 ways to get the RPM...
1) Inductive contact on plug wire (1400 RPM reading)
2) Cigarette lighter (0 RPM)
3) Battery clamps (0 RPM)

Nothing is working.

The inductive pickup needs to be on a trailing wire - the leading is waste sparked so it will be firing more often. Also, the pickup should be set to read as a 4 cylinder.

I've not gone through the emissions stuff (we don't have it in my state) but above is generally true and works with dynos.

That just seems stupidly simple, but it completely makes sense.

I live in the Tucker area and also have a '95 FD. Last year I took it to this place and they were able to get the testing done. It was a random place I decided to try while running errands for the day.

The place I took it the year before was good too, but can't recall where exactly it was. As another alternative, there's another local GA FD guy that, I believe, runs an emissions station. Let me know if you want more info.

As above if using inductive pickup, 4 cylinder dizzy setting on trailing HT lead.
