Full Detail Automotive Review
I bought a 1993 FD late last year, and was looking for someone to go through and give the car a thorough look-through to assess the health. I contacted FD Auto and we discussed my goals with the car. Mike was patient and answered all of my questions, then we came up with a gameplan for the car. The first step was some reliability mods, to include higher capacity radiator, additional oil cooler, rat's nest update and deleting some of the ancillary systems on the car that were no longer needed. I also had a downpipe and AI system installed.
Mike went through and identified a multitude of issues. He found that the fuel pulsation dampener was leaking (fire hazard), and that the previous owner had done a non-sequential mod on the turbos poorly. Mike also found that the fuel pump was rigged in very poorly and dangerously, and a couple of fuel leaks that were probably a result of poorly done mods to the car in the past.
Getting the car back, the sequential system was working properly, and it was amazing the difference in mid-range response. The sequential system is very complex, but very fun when working properly. Mike also installed a PFC and some gauges to round out the package and make the car safe to run on the street. Overall, Mike was pleasant to deal with, and was up front when he found issues with the car. He went over the cost for the additional repairs, and made suggestions as to path forward. Mike texted me almost daily with updates on the progress, and set up a flickr album with pictures of the car's teardown/rebuild. The communication was outstanding, most of the other businesses I have dealt with could take a lesson on customer service from Mike.
The car runs great now, and I would definitely recommend FD Auto in Tampa for anyone needing a competent mechanic who knows these cars very well. Thanks to Mike and the crew at FD Auto, I'm sure we'll be doing business again in the future.
