fukc me!!..... recalibrating needle

So I decided to take apart my dash to resolder cracked joints, so I pull off the needle, resolder blah, blah, but now that I put the needle back on it doesn't flow as smooth as the speedo, oil etc.. needles

usually if you move the needle up it'll slowly make its way back down, but now it stays where I move it to, or if I hold the cluster upside down for a min the needle will flop back to zero, or the other side with no resistance, while the other needles stay consistant.

I think I may have forced it too much past its stopping point, so I kind of fiddled with it but nothings really helping..

I haven't tried starting up the car yet, coz I don't really want to put it together if I fuct the thing up

I had the same problem. When you had put the needle on you had probally pushed it down to hard. Just back into it, and free up the needle by pulling up on it. You will see what I mean.

Not to be a bitch here but most of us on this forum don't want to see the F word in the subject. You'll get more hits if you don't use it untill the body of your post. OR not at all. It just makes you seem more professional.

Pumped,
Forget it man. You're screwed. Get another tach or risk pulling your dash numerous times until you get the needle seated "just right." IMO it's not worth the effort. Just get a used tach from a wrecked FD and be done with it. Just my humble opinion, as I've been there myself. I had my tach needle get sluggish over time. Must have pulled the dash 4 times trying to get the needle to "set" correctly then the needle finally hung up at 4krpm on the track one day and wouldn't come down. I threw in the towel and bought a used tach.
Regards,
Crispy

well yes,
did it help? yes and no,.... with the engine off the needle will still be sluggish, but with it on it smoother but still not not as smooth as the others, it seems to struggle a bit before moving

ok, I think I finally found out what you meant..

but there's also this other problem, after I pull out the the needle a bit, it moves around freely, but it won't stay, it will slowly slide back down and start getting sticky again.

also when I pull it up a bit it moves really freely, more so than the the speedo etc..

I think I over wound the needle a bit too much...

you have to adjust it very very finely... i finely got mine working properly after driving it for about 500 miles... just left the clear lense off it and adjusted while driving... it can be done... just got to have patience.. it all comes down to how much you value your time
