Fuel System Suggestions

So as I sit here waiting for my bushings to arrive I am stocking up parts for my build. I will admit right now that I am learning how to intall parts and fix things as I go and dont have much experience.

I am currently in the search for a fuel system and don't totally know what I will be best in terms of injector sizes.

I am currently looking into buying parts from a member, fuel rails, some lines, 850cc primaries, and 1300cc secondaries. I would need to piece together the rest, clips, fittings and FPR.

My concern with this setup would be to much fuel, idle problems, and unneccesarily expensive for my 400hp streetcar goal (more wouldnt kill me though). My turbo is a garrett T04s which until upgraded could be the limiting factor. I should be able to go to 550cc primarys if needed.

I know the rx7 store extreme kit is a good complete setup with only install required.

I know all of you have more experience than I do, so what would you reccoomend? I am not afraid of building my own and am quick to learn and understand info, so hit me with all you have.

Thanks for reading this lengthy post and for any info given, I should have been back to work 30min ago.

i would suggest buying the kit all at once new. i am personally running 550 primaries and 1680 secondaries with no problems. ive heard of some people having idle issues with 850's as primaries.

You don't need a crazy fuel system for your power goals. The easiest way to go is a set of secondary 1300's. They'll flow plenty for 400+hp. However I have read from multiple people that 1300's are more prone to failing than aftermarket ones.

You could also maybe get away with running 4x850's, but like you mentioned people have issues tuning at low loads and idle with larger primaries.

The overall safest way to go would be with a secondary 1600's kit, but that's of course several hundred dollars more than the above mentioned because you will need new rails, lines, fpr, etc...

Depending on your engine management you CAN have issues with tuning the 850 primaries at idle causing a rough idle, or rich idle. PFC is kinda limited in that area, but a good PFC tuner can really minimize those issues. On stock ports and that setup my car idled just fine, but it was a little rich. Now I have no issues but my car idles a little higher with different porting. If you are running a haltech or microtech I think they do not encounter the same issues.

Really the biggest question is for you. Do you have to work off a very tight budget for the fuel system? Or do you want to install something that you will most likely never need to upgrade?

If you are on a budget, the stock primaries and a set of 1300cc secondaries, fuel rail and FPR should be able to get you where you wish to be. But it may not take you much further. By doing the 850/1680 with two new rails, and FPR you should never really need to upgrade it unless you start getting into crazy power levels. Difference in cost is going to be a few hundred dollars, BUT in the long run it replaces a lot of old equipment, and leaves room to grow.

The factory fpd needs to go as it is prone to leaking and causing fires.

I have the KG extreme kit from RX7Store and I have no complaints.

One more piece of advice, the CJ motorsports fuel injector adapters with orings. They are money well spent and pretty cheap. Really handy on the primaries. They also offer a fuel kit that is a work of art, but really pricey.

I will be running a "safe" amount of boost on 93 pump gas and water injection. This will hopefully be recomended by KDR during tuning.

I am running a PFC for engine management.

As far as going for higher power later, I know at some point I will get greedy but I feel like 450hp and up on the street would be unneccesary. I would like to build it right the first time though.

I beleive with these rails, KG parts, I can get 550 top feeds to work as primaries, or ditch the primary rail and modify the OEM one. I think the only missing parts would be a few fittings and an FPR. I am still learning what is included though. The total cost would probably equal around 650-700 if I dont switch to 550cc primaries.

Pain and suffering would be much less with the rx7 store extreme kit, but at a cold blow of $580 it hurts this college students wallet, I have way over enough but I get cheap on big purchases. The build would feel cheaper because it would be multiple buys. The kit is looking like a better idea as i talk about the options.

Thanks for the replies guys.

You could just run the stock primary rail/stock 550's and get a secondary rail and some ID injectors if you're trying to save some money. 550/2000's should be more than enough for what you need. With 550's you also elminate fighting with idle issues.

That way you also won't need to buy and deal with the hassle of resistors/FJO driver, or the potential of having problems with stock 850's bored out to 1300.

I believe I will be getting an rx7 store extreme kit unless there is a better one that is about the same in price. This way I will retain the 550 primarys ans still achieve my power goal,
