fuel system cleaners

Got some fuel injector cleaners as well as fuel system cleaners at local Pep Boys. Poured into gas tank before fill up and it seems like I have a whole new car. That should have been the first thing I did after buying it from the dealership two months ago. Just a heads up

Re: fuel system cleaners

I'm glad you brought this subject up. I wonder how many people on the forum actually use fuel system cleaners. It's really very beneficial to rotarys. Too much carbon buildup could jam the apex seals in their grooves lowering your compression.

I watch the local department store for specials on fuel system cleaners and then buy two or three when on sale. Once every couple of months I put a bottle in. Probably overkill but it doesn't cost much and gives me peace of mind. The only thing I wonder about is maybe the cleaner countering the oil/fuel mix and leaving the seals too dry. Anybody got info?

Most fuel system cleaners actually have a ton of lubricants in them to prevent "washing" of the cylinder walls in piston engines. It should have no adverse effects on the lubrication of the apex seals.

I use Protek-R (pettit's fuel lube) every fill up. They claim that it cleans carbon build-up (as well as the many other things it does)... anybody know if it is as good as a fuel system cleaner (like stp or whatever)? I've often wondered this. what is in a fuel system cleaner anyways? maybe its the same sort of stuff...

BG 44K is the best fuel injector cleaner I have found. Most places don't carry it. You can find it on line for about $17 (11 ounce can).

I just dumped in a small (12oz) of Techron cleaner this weekend. Every few months I do it.

Maybe a dumb question but... would octane boosters clean injectors?

I use the same, only I use the big (20oz) bottle. I don't really notice a difference -- then again, I have a newly rebuilt motor/turbo/injectors.

I read an article with a response by a guy from RC Engineering a company that specializes in fuel injectors and he said something to the effect that any fuel injector cleaners poured in the tank, in order to be beneficial at all would have to be so powerful they would burn through and ruin the injectors or something like that.
