Arrow fuel related bucking under 1/2 tank...

my car bucks and hesitates real bad when trying to boost under 1/2 tank and gets worse as you go and at one point ran out of gas at 1/8 of a tank. it drives like it should when your at 3/4-full tank but around 1/2 it turns sour. what could be the cause of this and what will fix it?...

I have been told by numerous people (including this quote), that "The stock RX7 fuel tank doesn't have the necessary baffles in it to keep the fuel at the pump pick-up at tank levels less than 3/8 full. The result is fuel starvation under hard acceleration in the first two gears. This is not only bad for the engine, but it will also kill your momentum when racing or in severe street driving."

yes the sock thing. make sure it is not clogged. make sure it sits at the very bottom like it should. make sure there is no cracks in th piping so its sucking in air once your gas level gets too low.

it could also be preasure related in the engine area, say like the FPR or something, i dont know much about the fuel system so wait for others to post with experience.

yeah i read about this somewhere that dont let the tank reach 1/4 or below because under hard acceleration or in hard g's, the engine can be starved for fuel..

i keep my tank 1/2 or better all the time.

Didn't they fix the baffles in the tank in the later 94+ models?

there was a thread where they moved it down and back a little, so when you accelerate it wont starve your engine.

Just because it's farther back doesn't mean it's going to really solve the problem. There will still be issues with the fuel flowing side to side. It happens even when your driving straight.

You need something like this!

Yes. https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...mian+fuel+tank

Will it help? Yes. How much it'll actually help all depends on how much power your running, and what you do with the car.

I have the later '95 gas tank. I have hit fuel starvation ONCE in over 30k miles, with over 1k of those miles on the track. The one time I hit it, I was accelerating hard out of an entrance ramp with an almost empty tank. In street driving, you should be fine in any conditions with at least 1/8 tank -- at least with the '95 gas tank.

I have hit fuel starvation several times while autocrossing with about 1/4 tank. The fix was to race with a full tank . Your car is probably fine.

When drag racing have 1/2 tank minimum at all times. That means either go to the track with more and leave with 1/2 or keep refiling to 1/2 after each run. You'll use about 1 gallon of gas each 1/4 mile run on a heavily modified car.

I hit fuel starvation in 1st gear even with a not so impressive 1.8 60 and just under 1/2 tank left.

If you're at 1/4 tank or less on the street just don't floor it in 1st or corner hard

sounds totally unrelated to your problem however.
