fuel pump not comming on, do FD's prime?

My fuel pump isn't turning on when I go key on, or during cranking. I can't remember if fd's prime the pump during "key on" or not.

here is what I have done since it last ran: rebuilt motor, installed single t-kit and all suporting stuff including KG parts fuel kit, installed walbro pump, brand new wiring harness is mostly installed, and installed the PowerFC ecu today including clipping the 4 wires listed in dale clark's awesome FAQ..

So the pump is clipped into the harness. I'm sure I installed it correctly as I've done a few before. Is there anything under the hood that has to be connected for the pump to do it's job (I ask because there are alot of clips on the engine not connected due to the emissions removal)? The EGI fuse looks good.

everything else seems to be working fine for the moment. Oh, there is something that sounds similar to the fuel pump priming when I go key on, but it's comming from the front of the car. what could that be? does the OMP prime?

thanks for any ideas.

Yes the PFC does prime the F/P when you turn the key on.

Have you tried jumping the F/P terminal to gnd in the diagnostic box? Have you checked the F/P fuse?

If you try to start the car and it doesn't start or the car dies, the PFC will cause the idle solenoid to buzz if the key is left on, that may be what your hearing.

ran into this thread, and the last post makes it seem like it should prime on key on. can anyone confirm that? still not sure what turns on for a second or two in the front of the car during key on.

hey thanks for the quick reply. I didn't try the diagnostic box thing. where is that located? I'll give it a shot.

also I didn't try to start the car when I hear the buzz, just going key on does that.

thanks for the info.

Mine doesn't prime either...... It only prime after turning the engine over for more than a second. I just wired up a switch to the diagnostic box so prime mine before starting.

It should prime when you turn the key to the on position. I know my 94 does it because I turn my key on and off a couple of times to fill the fuel lines after the car sits for a couple of weeks.

I found this out the hard way. I had my entire engine and tranny out of the car. And I had a friend who was messing around on the inside playing with radio, pretending to drive whatever, he turned the key on, and fuel was just gushing out of the fuel line all over the garage.

So if your engines ever out, Don't forget that it will still prime if you turn it on.

Like other fuel injected cars, they do prime, but some cars have louder fuel pumps than others. Mine happens to be loud enough to be heard in the car, but on other cars the pump is whisper quiet.
