fuel pump install

I need to install a new fuel. I talked to a friend and he said that the easiest way was to do it from the top. I also installed a stereo system in the car which makes access to the fuel pump impossible from the top. I'm trying to avoid taking the system out to get to the fuel pump. Is there an easy way to do it from the bottom?

You can either drop the fuel tank, or remove your stereo equipment... If it was me, I'd probably opt for the stereo equipment.

It is very easy to remove the fuel pump assembly from the top. I would remove your stereo equipment.

Dropping the fuel tank is a PITA, on a scale of 1 - 10 it would rank about an 8 (according to things I've read over the years....I haven't done it myself).

I guess all you can do is to compare how hard you think it is to remove your stereo stuff. Did YOU install the system or have it done? If you did it....then you'll know what you are up against.

There really are only two choices here.

That just looks like a piece of wood laid in the bottom of the cargo area with a sub sitting in the spare wheel area. Could be wrong but that looks pretty easy to take out

Access to the fuel pump is on the left of center area (the larger black area between the sub and the emblem)

^^My thoughts exactly... That looks pretty easy, though a bit time consuming, to remove. Dropping the tank would be MUCH more involved. Just pull the stereo and do the fuel pump install the easy way.

You have to release the electrical clips and fuel lines from the top anyway. Otherwise you would not be able to drop the tank all the way down. Taking out your sound system would'nt be as much of a pain as draining the fuel, dropping the tank, wrestling with the wires and lines from underneath. Take my word for it.......................remove the sound system to access the pump from the top.

You need to disconnect everything on top of the tank prior to dropping it anyways.

Fuel Pump Access > Speakers ... as much of a universal constant as manlaw

Once you've had it for a little I think you'll find you listen to the car more than music anyway.

That and you'll develop the mutant ability to smell coolant from a mile away.

I'd also suggest you go ahead and buy the gasket for the fuel pump assembly and probably will need new screws. The old ones are tiny and like to rust to pieces.

Now THIS is sound advice

+1 on removing the stereo stuff to access the pump. My choice would be to keep it out, sell it, & buy something useful for your car..... but to each his own.
