Fuel leak in engine bay!!

The other day I noticed a fuel spot on the ground after letting the car warm up and pulling out of my driveway. I checked the fluid and it was gas. I have looked for a leak... I even layed on the ground for a good while and didn't see any drips. I have checked fuel lines and everything. The motor was installed by a mazda dealership in KS. Do you think that this would be covered in a warranty. I don't like the idea of someone else working on my car but I am unable to find the leak...?

It's most likely under the upper intake manifold, where it's pooling then dripping to the ground. I can't stress this enough - do NOT DRIVE THE CAR until you fix the problem. This is a recipe for a SERIOUS engine fire, more than one FD has been burnt to the ground!

If a Mazda dealer installed the motor, they should fix it. That's just a sloppy install on their part - it's not hard to have a leak-free fuel system.

If I had to take a guess, I would say----FPD.

Fuel Pulsation Dampener, located on the prim fuel rail under the uim and all the seq crap. Mine started leaking at around 90k miles. You can get a new one from ray at malloy for around 100-50 bucks.

And just for safe measure, you do carry a fire extinguisher in your 7 right? If not, go get one!

Don't go to your local dealer for the FPD. They will charge you too much money. Call Ray at Malloy (888-533-3400) and he can one or two day it to you ($5 shipping). Unless you have a local dealer hookup, Malloy will be much cheaper. When you call and order from Malloy, just mention your are an RX-7 forum member and you will get a reduced price.

Good luck with your repair.

I'm not going to buy one, it better be covered in the warranty on the new engine. Thanks for the help though.

I doubt it will be. FPD is part of the fuel system, which is not changed or serviced with a normal engine rebuild.

I'm not sure I'd even drive it or start the engine. The thought of a fire is an order of magnitude more scary than having to struggle through the job myself in my driveway. I would either get it flatbed towed to a rotary shop or be really nice to some local FD owners who might be bribed (beer) into helping.

I would bet anything that it is the fpd. I just had this problem with my car. It is a pretty easy fix if you are a little mechanically hand. take off your fpd by a fuel pressure regulator and hard line it to your fuel rail. your car will run exactly the same juss=t much safer. If you have any question pm me.
