Fuel injectors

I have the extreme fuel system on my FD. Ever since I got the system installed the car smells like raw fuel even after hours of it being off. I'm thinking that one of the injectors are being stuck open and is leaking into the engine.

I'm over seas right now and my friend takes the car out once in a while, here is the e-mail he sent out.
ust had a hard time with 7

Did the usual warm up it does this drop in tone and it comes back to normal

When i was driving out of my community, it dropped again so pull over and let sit some more. the car was already warm so i didnt get it.
All the numbers looked right.

I drive to 5th and it pretty packed so im not driving any faster than 5mph.I get around the road blocks and head back to 5th.
On 5th it drops again.
So i rev it a little higher so it wont die on me. bumper to bumper traffic

now im getting nervous it soundin bad.
Its not acting right at all.
I thought it was like that only when its cold.
Thank God theres a spot open in front of starbucks and i let it sit for about a half hour. get coffee and chill. a couple bikers where there complimenting.

When i get back in, the 7 nevr came back bro. its just sitts at 4 to 6 hundred rpms and when i try to rev it, it trys so hard to increase. the tone is so low. sounds like its about to die.
the freekin trafic was so bad, it was hard to pull out, the car would die every time.

one biker said, "your injectors sound dead!!"

So i pull out, car sounding like crap, im causing a comotion dieing all the time and feeling like anything im doing is going to hurt the car, i turn left at the corner and let it sit again.

o yea Trudi is in the car with me, she asked if driving so slow so long clogged the injector. it cant be because when i tried to rev it it didnt change.

so i waited some more and drove home praying that im not hurting the car. I drove 20 mile mph untim i got home. i let it sit in the street at my house anything was leaking, all is fine. my neighbor gets home right when i turned it on to get back in the garage . when i come out he said, " it doesnt sound right" i said i dont know what going on. he said soounds like it not getting fuel. hmmmm your the second person.

This was worst night ever.

Ill tell you more when we talk,

Is there a way to test to see if they are stuck open, I just dont want to go out and but 4 new injectors.

it's hard to say from such a vague description. are you just saying that the car started idling low? It could be anything man... but stuck injector is not the first thing I would consider. I would check all vacuum connections, make sure all sensors are in spec... since your sig says you have a 500R, I am guessing you have a PFC or some other standalone. It could be a tuning issue.

When I did my engine swap the car started and had all the same symptoms, turned out a primary injector wire had broken and I was running on only one rotor. It could easily be that one of you're primaries is stuck open, flooding one rotor, causing you to run on only one.

this would also explain the smell, as you would have a bunch of fuel stuck in one rotor after shutting it off.

I would check the spark first though, as that could cause you to run on only one rotor, and its easy to check.

To trouble shoot the injector, unplug a primary, see if the car will turn on, if it does, plug it back in and check the other one, if one injector is the problem, it won't start when the good injector is unplugged b/c they both won't be working. I guess a secondary could be stuck open and flooding a rotor, but i would just check the primaries first.

that change in tone is definitely b/c one rotor quits.

So if I unplug the injectors and I have the UIM off, I can still start the car? Or do I have to put everything back together? And do it one at a time, that will be a long process.

i would put the uim back on before trying to start the car. You probly need the sensors in it hooked up. i don't have the rats nest so i can unclip the injector wires pretty easy with it still on.

How can I test them? I'm reading to hook up a 9v bat. or smtg. and if you hear a click that means they are ok, and if you dont hear the click its bad. Can you please tell me in detail how to do this?

I'm not sure how to actually test the injector itself, unplugging one and trying to start the car will indicate which one it is. But i would think there's a way to test the injector by using a battery.

they are a simple magnetic solenoid. just hook + on one side and - on the other. doesnt matter which side. then listen for a click. you can use a 9v battery or jumper wires from your battery. i have a spare injector clip that i like to use as its easier to hook up, and with my single turbo setup i can just reach under the UIM and test them without removing anything except 1 bolt for my FPR.

also Chudsoncoupe has good advice with unhooking each injector to see if it effects how it runs. if you unplug one with it running and it dies then the other chamber has a problem with spark or fuel. if it runs exactly the same then its that particular side. thats how i've tested mine in the past, its very easy if you can access under your UIM without the rats nest and a bunch of crap in the way.

Thanks for the reply Dudemaaanownsanrx7 I will try the 9v. bat. method. I really hope its just the injector and and a blown engine. Damn its like brand new also.
