fuel filter replacments???

i went to the local autoparts store today and i tried to buy a fuel filter for my 93 with my friend who also needs one for his car. well after i wander around and get into line i hear that my friend got one. so i go to order it and they are sold out.... well then they proceed to tell me that they cannot order one for me since its a discontinued part..WTF...so i ask them to search the other stores to see if they have one... and all of the discount auto part stores in florida dont have one. so anyways, i thought i read somewhere about a miata fuel filter being the same one. Mazda wants $55 for a stick fd filter and my friend got his for $19. so yeah right i will fork out that much more dough for the same thing. i guess what i am trying to ask is, is there a different fuel filter from a miata that i can use...or am i forced to pay the real price.

You can get the Bosch from a lot of auto parts stores for pretty cheap.....or just go with Malloy or Madaformance on the OEM unit for a significant savings over retail (at least 25%-).

Unhappy sorry no part#....

I'm sorry man, I don't have the part# for the Bosch. It was the last filter I had on my car and I got it from some import parts store. I just got an OEM one for the last 1 I changed out last month.

You might to check the yellow pages under auto parts-imports (not necessarily performance parts).

ask perfectrx7 he has new oem stuff

dont bother with generic filters

bosch ones require relocation of the filter and you need to clean it often since it's a small filter.

Good advice, Malloy Mazda, Stock filter, change it once a year. Or you could go by the owners manual.

Bosch = direct replacement

The Bosch replacement filter does not require relocation, it mounts directly to where the OEM unit does. I believe it's the same aftermarket direct replacement unit that RP sells. I think "DJant" is thinking of some other genreic upgrades/swapouts. The Bosch unit is a direct aftermarket replacement for the OEM
unit.

Several years back the only knock on the Bosch filter was that you had to transfer the old OEM mounting bracket to the Bosch unit. That being said, the OEM one I just got from Malloy didn't come with a mounting bracket either, so I had to transfer my original one from the Bosch to the new OEM/Malloy unit. No biggie, it's not like it's difficult after going through the PITA of removing the filter!
