AZ Front strut tower bar that clears Xcessive LIM

Hi,

I bought a black factory strut tower bar awhile back and did not realize this does not clear my engine in its current configuration. Its not even close. The only thing I can think off that would cause this is the Xcessive LIM.

Is there anyone with a Xcessive LIM with a front strut bar that clears?

what about your engine mounts. Aftermarket mounts could make your engine sit higher then stock.

lol I was just looking at some for sale threads and I think I figured out your problem. You most likely have it mounted backwards. The brackets that bolt to the top of the struts should be mounted to the bolts closest to the front of the car. If the rx7 emblem is upside down then just swap the brackets around

I wish that was the issue. It is mounted correctly. It's just simply does not come close to clearing the Greddy TB elbow. I read that the Xcessive LIM is taller so I thought this may have been a common issue.

Brian, I'm running the stock RX-7 strut bar on mine with Excessive LIM and no clearance issues whatsoever. We should get together to compare setups.

Hi Tim - that would be great. I didn't realize you were running the Excessive LIM. The only difference intake wise between our cars would be I am running a Rotary Works 90mm TB. I may be heading up to the pavilions Saturday if you are interested in meeting up there.

Here are a few pics. One pic simply has the strut tower bar placed on top of the shock tower bolts and it still does not clear.

Just looking at your pics, I'd say it's a combination of your motor mounts being "slightly" thicker than mine AND the difference in width between the stock throttle body and the Rotary Works model. How wide is the RW TB? Stock is ~2 7/8". Have you tried loosening your Greddy elbow bolts and silicone coupling to see if you can clock it slightly downward? Just a thought. I'll call or text you about Saturday night.

I am going to say it is the throttle body. I've read a few posts where people had to cut and reweld their elbow to clear the strut tower brace.

As some have said its the RW Throttle Body and the motor mounts/oil pan brace combo. I too have the RW TB and it puts the elbow higher than stock.

The RW TB is 3.5" wide. That definitely could be most of the issue. That being said I am very happy with the combo. The mid range torque and power I am making on a BW S366 is unheard of and I think the RW TB has a lot to do with it.

Thanks man. Definitely a lot of work involved. I'm not quite to RCCAZ 1's level (pretty much perfect) but it turned out alright.

You're too humble my friend! Sorry I missed touching base with you last Saturday night. We'll need to compare notes in the near future. One thing to possibly consider are the new Full Function motor mounts that allow you to position the engine at 3 different height settings. Just a thought!

I just took a look and that is probably the direction I would go. Pretty cool. Thanks for the info everyone.
