I got a second gen from plate holder and slightly modified it. I keep it in the trunk along with 2 bolts and a 10mm wrench. Whenever I go into NY (my home state) I bolt it on. I live out of state and have never been stopped outside NY. In NY Ihave been stopped and forced to put it back on. They use it to reflecs lasers off of in a speed trap.

BTW.. I really do not like the laser speed guns... Because they look so much like a guy with an Uzi aimed at me. Those stinking guns even have a shoulder pad and they aim them like a real gun.

Putting the front plate in the dash in VA is not a legal display method, I got a ticket for it :o

I just don't put it on. I bought my car from WV, and it didn't come with a front plate bracket, so I didn't bother to put it on. It's not my DD, so I don't worry about it, I'll just eat the fine if I get another ticket.

Man...just drive w/o it. You really don't need it. It's a $40some ticket, not a fixi it ticket, and no points involved.

I would NOT recommend leaving it in the dash, cuz that thing can practically decapitate you in the event of an accident

Is there a kit you can buy for mounting your license plate on the passanger side oil cooler duct? Has anyone done a write up or can help me out?

Thanks,

Andrew

I've been running without a front plate for 10 years and three RX7's in Fairfax County no less. I've been stopped for it precisely twice, and was given one ticket (at a county sticker checkpoint in Richmond).

Leave it off, don't worry about it.

My solution, too... I got pulled over for no plate -- cop let me go....

btw; there are even rules (in NJ) for minimum plate height from the street....

When I was in San Diego a couple months ago there were many cars without the front plate. Even a friend who lives there said it isn't required anymore. I was thinking of moving to Cali, and a front plate on my car is not acceptable. If it is required, maybe a 99 front could work.

Supposed to need front plate in Washington state.

I have been running over a year without one and have not yet been ticketed.

I keep the plate, bracket and screws in the aft storage box; figure if stopped, I will pull it out and mount it, maybe claim I was told we did not need front tabs any more so did not need plates.

Maybe offer the fuzz a ride...
Maybe get a ticket...
but the car looks cooler.

^^^ I tried that trick... drove for about a year without a front plate... when I got pulled over, I told the cop that I had my "home made" bracket (the Home Depot special of L brackets) but it "fell off".. he said I should go buy the real Mazda ones and told me to fix it, then let me go....

I don't know about the rest of Cali, but in Frisco, the ticket is $100. After paying for a few of those, a $30 OEM license plate bracket starts to look pretty damn good.

Well it's almost the same here...the ticket itself is only like $40, but they automatically assign a "Court fee" of $47 (I think it's now up to $52 or $58), which you HAVE to pay, whether you go to court or not Apparently, that's the MINIMUM you'd pay, while going to court will usually land you a larger fine, even if the charge remains exactly the same. Yayy for Fairfax Popo So in short, the $40 no front tags ticket ends up being $80some bucks, so we're not far behind.
