ist there anyway you guys know of to jimmy rig it to the front bumper? i tried zip tying it around the fins in the front bumper but it kept falling under...any ideas?

i realize its my own fault for puting it off till the last minute...but now i don't have any options..

Sign it with a random signature, put a random badge number (probably 4 digits), and then put somewhere SCPD. It's a risk, but I highly doubt the courts check.

if you got some kind of home depot or like something that opens early or late you can buy some K brackets and attaching it via those. These brackets are used for like holding up shelves or something.

Use some double sided 3M foam tape. It'll stick temporarily.

opps the K was a miss spelling, do you have an aftermarket bumper? the stock bumper has two holes to attach a stock bracket holder.

"and i really don't want to drill holes"

don't want to get the drill out? or don't want holes visible on the bumper?

just checking - but you do know that you can buy plate stays that don't need to be bolted to the front?

On your front bumper on the bottem, where a R1 lip would bolt to, theres holes under there. Go to home depo and get some cheapo metal thats thin and you can bend nice and easy. drill 2 holes in one of the strips of metal. one at both ends, bend the metal to make a "L". do that for the other peice. bolt the plate to it, then using the holes on the bottem of the bumper bolt the strips to the bottem of ur bumper so the plate sticks up above ur bumper.

Problem solved

It's your unlucky day. I sold mine yesterday for $10 (I ended up going with a 99-spec, so didn't need it).

This pic might help;

my one was FD specific - not sure how much difference that makes.

I'd suggest finding a metalworker who can fab one up - it's definitely not rocket science

I drilled holes in the front spoiler for the lower holes on the plate and it worked great. I fifgue I will replace the front lip every couple of years anyway.

Im with RXweee on this one..

My front plate is held on with two "L" shapes brackets..one for each side.

If you look in through the hole in the front (Hopefully you will see a radiator in there!! ) on the bottom of the TOP side of the hole there are two screw holes from the factory.

Simply attach the bottom of one of the "L" brackets to the screw hole on the left......then attach the bottom of the other "L" bracket to the screw hole on the right!

Now you should have each bracket pointing out the front of the car , with the the bend making the top of the "L" point towards the sky.

Now simply attach the top of number plate to the top of the "L"

Pretty simple..not exactly rocket science..

I will be modifying mine when i get some new plates..
the Miata has a hinge bracket i have seen floating around on there forum. I intend on making something up similar. It will attach to approx the same place, as the above "L" brackets. the number plate will hang down approx 50% over the opening, and obviously 50% above the opening. When wind hits it (As your driving) the spring in the hinge will give way allowing the number plate to bend backwards into the opening , until the plate is horizontal! (Thus no air restriction..and the plate needn't sit as high as normal thus not as damn ugly!) For registration / inspection purposes i intend to have a locking pin I can insert into the hinge to prevent it moving (Make it a solid mount)

Hope the above dribble helps.

(PS if someone wants to fab up a few of the above styled hinged brackets, please feel free to sell me one!! My fabrication skills suck!)

yes - just fab up somethign with some thin metal from Home Depot or something. I couldn't take more than 15 minutes - it really only takes two L shaped brackets like he said and then 4 bolts - 2 to hold the bracket in and 2 to hold the plate to it.............

Can't you just pay the ticket and move on?????

the stock bracket doesn't require any holes to be drilled.

You can also use the bolts that hold down your tow hook. That is what I did. take a strip of 1/8 inch steel, bend it into an L shape. Drill 2 holes to attach it to the tow hook, and 2 holes to attach to the license plate. I will try and get a picture up later.

Hey Phishie. order the stock bracket from the dealer and keep the plate on the car. the motor officers in valencia don't play. due to the new photo red lights around the city all the cars are being checked for front plates. and if you don't already know slow down radar is everywhere. (copper hill, seco cyn, magic mountain pkwy, solidad, valencia blvd, haskel, and bouquet.)
