Front brake clunk

Hi FD drivers,

I have learned a lot about suspension clunking and therefore I will replace the 6 pillow ball bearings. But there is additional problem. Front brake clunking. Is there a how to for that? Is it hard to find / repair?

Thanks for your advice.

I would suspect that it is the front control arm bushings. Either upper or lower.

My car developed a "clunk" noise in the front suspension shortly after I bought the car. There are other causes, but in my case I finally traced it to fore and aft movement of the upper 'A' arm along the mounting bolts and between the chassis mounting flanges. It was only a few mm of movement, but very noticiable when braking at low speed...forward or backing up. I used the fix described below. No issues for about 5 years now.

Check your sway bar mounts to see if they aren't bent. My ones are bent so badly that my sway bar doesn't move unless I brake which causes the end links to hit and grind up against the lower arm causing some noise.
