if replacing freezer plugs, can it be done without pulling engine?

 

Depends which ones. The ones on the rear iron could be done with the motor in the car if you pull the trans. But the ones in the front iron behind the front cover aren't worth trying. That being said, they rarely go bad in these cars. If they rust through, chances are your cooling system is in very poor shape. This happens most often when the coolant is never changed.

 

you underestimate my stupidity, this summer i got my car up and running after years of it sitting, did a coolant flush but forgot all about putting coolant into the engine, been running on water the whole time

 

Are they leaking? If not...put coolant in it now and keep driving it!

also, whats happening that you would want to replace the plugs? i assume theyre leaking but you cant really see that with the transmission attached................... and the motor assembled.

not sure if the its leaking from the plug, will have to check this weekend when i get time to jack up the car and get a better view .. from my initial view it did seem to leak near the tranny .. and water leaks just as fast as im able to pour it in

 

if its leaking that fast is prob something else.

 

Tension bolt washers can be another culprit.
