I am running the KD rotary anti-det mod, where you only use the leading plugs. This was not my choice, but how the previous owner had it rebuilt.


I pulled my plugs tonight to replace them (I've been replacing/flushing parts/fluids since I bought car). Just curious on your take on the condition of these plugs. To me there was some corrosion on the top of the plug on the front rotor plug, and it seems it ran a little leaner. Should I replace the plug wires due to the corrosion?

Left plug is front rotor, right plug is rear rotor.

Mine looked much worse than that when I replaced them, but I don't know anything about blocking off the trailing plugs. The electrodes look pretty decent. Maybe a pro will chime in and give some conclusive advice. Since I'm **** I probably would just replace them anyways.

yes I'm replacing them tomorrow. Advance Auto parts had to overnight them since they were out of stock.

Inspect the plug wires to help you make a decision. If they look beat up and you don't know how long they've been on there, probably a good idea to install some new NGK oem plug wires. Also, a little bit of dielectric grease in the metal sleeve of the plug wires will help to prevent corrosion/oxidation.

Yep, I'll need to replace the wires. Front rotor wire had a lot of corrosion, and no longer clicks onto the plug. Local parts store doesn't have them in stock so I have to wait 3 days.

Might be a good time to undo the the anti-det mod since I'll have 4 new wires and 4 new plugs. Although I couldn't see the trailing coil, so I'll need to source one of those as well.

Also found that 1 of the 12mm bolts was missing on the throttle body, and 2 of the 10mm bolts on the intake elbow were piece of junk replacements that were rusting. Previous owned must've dropped/lost them when working on the car in past.

I also cleaned the throttle body butterflies, they were pretty nasty. When I replace the wires I think I'm gonna pull it off completely and clean it out.

Last night I cleaned the dashpot so I could adjust it (white pin is pushed in about 3-4mm), but it was back to the orignal state this morning after I cleaned it and it looked better last night. I think it's a lot cause and I need a new one.

Started up the car and idle seemed a lot smoother so at least I didn't make it worse.

There are two trailing coils, one for each plug. They sit on either side of the leading coil, which fires both leading plugs. four plugs, three coils.

You may want to take off the UIM to see what fun surprises await you under it based on what you've found so far

Sounds like you need a boost leak pressure test.
