fpd leak quick question

fpd leak quick question
When the fpd goes bad, how much fuel does it usually leak? Is it a lot at once, or kind of a mist or vapor? I'm asking because I have a puddle of gas on top of my engine about an inch deep, right under my fpd. I've removed the fuel rail and injectors and everything looks ok, how do I even tell if an fpd is bad? The thing looks perfectly fine from the outside, although I'm going to replace or delete no matter what any way. I just want to know for sure that the fpd is where the fuel was coming from.
The car was running fine before this was discovered. I went out to the garage after it sat for a day and saw the puddle of gas on the floor. I do remember getting faint whiffs of gas here and there but nothing like the big puddle today.

If you prime the fuel system with the upper intake off, look at the top of the fpd. My buddies car had the same issue, fuel smell after drive, took off upper intake notice fuel exactly what you posted. You can see fuel just seeping out of the top of the fpd, where the nipple sticks out. In the end, replaced the fpd and some rubber lines. The rubber lines swelled up, since it was soaking in the fuel.

so just the little o ring can be responsible for so much fuel being leaked? my o ring does look pretty shot.
sorry for so many questions, Ive read a lot about fpd leaks but nobody ever said anything about the quantity of fuel leaked. I'm new to working on fuel systems so I like a little reassurance.

Pull the upper intake manifold, jumper the F/P and GND connectors in the diagnostic box, and turn the key On. This will run the fuel pump.
Look, feel, and smell for fuel leaks. It's typically REALLY obvious if you have a leak. With that much gas up there you have a leak without question, you just need to pinpoint it.
Also, I would NOT drive the car until you fix this.
Once you replace the leaky part, do the test again and let it run for a good minute or more. If it's bone dry, you know you fixed it right.
If it is a fuel hose, get a new hose from Mazda and use the stock spring clamps. Ill-fitting parts store hose and worm-drive clamps are a poor way to do it and will likely leak again.

And thanks for the tips Dale. Your word is my gospel.
I'm planning on replacing everything while I'm in there. New rubber hoses, injector o rings, etc. I was looking to pick up some used injectors with 85k on them from a local forum member. I read that injectors should be replaced every 60k, will I be OK for a while if I get them cleaned and flow tested? Or is it just not worth it to buy them at all?
