Found a wire on the ECU connected to Ground

I was installing a A/F gauge and noticed one of those vampire connectors from some wire to ground?

Does anyone know why this would be done?

Should I leave it since the car is ok?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hard to tell from the photo - which pin on the connector does the wire run to? Are you sure it's a ground wire it's connected to?

He's talking about that black and yellow striped wire with a black connector that other guy with the fuel problems was talking about. Actually I don't know why mazda put it there it seems all FD's have that wire but it doesn't exactly hook up to anything. It's not a ground I believe it has voltage if I remember correctly.

Could the former owner have done this?

If you have a touring, do you still have the fog lights or, as was common, did someone remove them? If so, it could have gone to the fog light switch.

I was thinking that, but it doesn't look like the right wire.

It's a black with grey stripe wire.

What are the two boxes behind the ECU?

There is a smaller silver box, then an even smaller black box.

It's coming out of the harness on the bottom left going to the wire that I think is ground. It's the wire on the front of the ECU Bracket as you take the kick panel off, which i'm pretty sure is ground.

According to the site I linked, the small black box should be the fan control module.

The silver box is the CEL (Check Engine Light) box.

I have that same one, with factory fogs and it's still not used.

What usually goes in the center button? adjustable shocks maybe?

I used it for the fan mod with another fog light button.

No, sorry. Many here removed the OEM foglights for various reasons. I thought maybe that was the case with "BoostFrenzy's" car and they also removed the switch too...leaving just the plug.

That wire is tapped into the fan control recall harness. That's basically the fan mod - grounding that wire will make the fans come on at Low speed. If the wire is grounded for 2 minutes, it will run the fans for 10 minutes after the car is shut down.

Read on fan mods for some more info.
