found the mysterious suspension clunk

well many of you know the great 'clunk' in the rear suspension. i was told the m2 trailing arms would help wheel hop and most likely eliminate the noise. well i installed them and checked for play after installation and still had some. i looked around and noticed the upper control arm outer bushings on both side are the culprits. i want to fix this asap and looked for prices. at mazdatrix, they're $57.99 each. does anyone know where to get polyurethane bushings for our cars for a good price? i don't wanna spend that much on factory stuff.

just figured a lot of you have this problem too and it'd give you something to look at. just take ur wheels off and wiggle the hub really hard in every direction and you'll most likely see that they're bad like me

you are looking for pillowball bushings. max cooper has a write-up on how to change these. i forget the site, but i'm sure if you doa search with pillow ball and max cooper, it will show up. mazda is the only place to get them as of right now.

well during my search for suspension bushings, i found a TSB on all FD's made before May 31,1992. Mine was made in January, so I'm giving them a call when I get a chance. Also found out that I might be able to get a free paint job from mazda too! i love doin TSB searches

I hate to burst your bubble, but a TSB is not a recall. That means you get to pay for it yourself. The paint thing was negotiable with Mazda depending how much you whined. There is no way they are going to honor a "discrepancy" for a 12 year old car.

The good news is you can get the pillow ball bushings (all 6) for $42.74 each, (they retail for $61.05 so screw Mazdatrix) shipped free (which will save you another $10.00) from Malloy Mazda - 1-888-533-3400, speak only to Ray, and tell him your buddy Ron sent you - he'll probably throw in a Mazdaspeed Calender and some other goodies just for asking.....

He's a VERY nice guy and gets **** done pronto.

I wonder if they were more original than SP Engineering when they knocked off my bushings verbatim...

You can find the build date of your car on the driver side door jam if it has not been removed.
