Found my oil leak!
For those of you wondering where you're leaking oil, you may want to look here as one of your guessing locations. I have a CA 93 touring and the flange that connects the oil filter and cooler line to the block has a leak everything under it was moist and after i started the car and revved it a little to increase pressure i turned off the car and soon enough fount fresh oil in between the sandwich plate of that flange. So if anyone out there knows if Mazda has a gasket for this damn flange or knows a way so solve it (WITHOUT USING RTV SILICONE GASKET MAKER), then please post up and help

Under the oil filter block is 2 rubber o-rings. After time they get brittle so that's probably what is leaking on your car. I think to fix it is less than $2.

ill have to check it out... i need to change my oil anyway since i just bought the car and i dont trust the previous owners word on him just changing the oil. So I'll be posting up about it soon. Thanks alot

Does anybody have any recommendations on doing this fix? I would think you need to remove the oil filter block/pedastal. That requires loosening 1 bolt on the hard lone, then two small screws/bolts that are attached to the underside of the block. They are incredibly hard to get to.

The replacement can be done without removing the hard line (although it's easier if this line is removed). Get a set of "stubby" box wrenches from Sears. This will give you the clearance to get at the two bolts underneith the pedestal.
I have heard that someone removed the nuts from below using a socket wrench and extension. I could see how this was done and ended up going in from teh top.
Not a bad operation overall.

This was probably one of the first maintenance items (beyond oil, plug and filter changes) I tackled on my car ages ago. Wrankin pretty much has it right. A little fussy but completely do-able. Do it blind, from the top. Be adventurous! Show the world you've got talent, courage and whatever mechanics convince themselves that they have and we don't.

I did this a couple of years ago and new o-rings were a few bucks from the mazda dealership. I did it in about an hour from the top without removing the hardline. You can't really see what you're doing but once you lift the oil filter mounting plate you can feel the o rings underneath and replace them. Each one sits in a recessed circular groove.

i just took the filter plate off the block, and yes for everyone questioning the hardline... theres no need to take it off. The only time u need to take it off is depending on your tools and the technique u use to get to the nuts. The nut on the left is extremely easy. But the one on the right is a litttttle more difficult. You'll need to get a small wrench. See i said WRENCH, if you like crying and whining and throwing tools around... go ahead to try to use a socket and a ratchet. Your wrench should at the most be 4-5 inches or ull start hitting the firewall or hoses. Good luck to those who do this next and thanks to those who helped.
