Forum members beware!

MVA Motorsports, my previous shop which I had decent experience with FUCKED me! I purchased an 93 rx7 in March and needed a rebuild so I dropped if off to them to get done and I was told it would be 3 weeks. I said no prob. and made them do the work(rebuild,hd 3mm apex seals, pinned motor, street port,etc... Well I didn't recieve the car till the end of June 3+ mos. later. I let that slide but I have had nothing but problems with this car from the get go.

The 1st day the ast broke and check engine light stayed on. I repaired that with the petit ast and 3 day later I picked up the car blowing smoke and still check engine light on. 1 week later the intercooler pipe blew off on the highway and the fuel pump was leaking. I went back and did 2 fuel pumps and fixed the ic piping. 3 days later the fuel pumps are leaking and the car is still blowing smoke. They repaired the fuel problem and then proceeded to tell me that all rx7's blow smoke and the check engine light won't come off since I have a different comp.

A couple days later the plugs were burnt out, the o2 sensor was shot and the wastegate wasn't opening. All this stuff was new when I got the car. I repaired all and the car is still blowing smoke and the check ewngine light is still on. Well it's been 3 mos. now and last night I went out to dinner and the egt gauge shot up and the car died. I tried to start it and nothing, I'm getting it looked at today by a dealer to see if the engine is blown. Besides that the flat bed ripped my front bumper off and I had to pay 200 for the tow.

Last but not least they are looking for money for a clutch they put in that I didn't want! What can I do about this? Forgot to mention they were suppose to rebuild the engine that was in the car but I checked the vin and it's a different serial# I don't what the hell is going on? I contacted the BBB and will contact my lawyer about this!

Thanks

P.S Can I get suggestions about this situation!

Keep the clutch, and tell them to go **** themselves (in a polite way). If they take you to court, just show paperwork or whatever you used to order the parts needed for the rebuild. As far as im concerned they owe YOU money because obviously they did a **** poor job. If what you are saying is 100% accurate you will have no problem in court.

man, thats a very complicated problem you have there. best of luck to you man. i dont have any idea of a resolutiong except confront them on EVERYTHING. shops dont like it when you prove them wrong or tell them theyre shop is wak. the bbb cant do anything if the company isnt a member. . . i think. ask them why they replaced the engine and look at your invoice to see what kind of parts are listed as the replacements. dont back down. . . confront them first. try to work it out with them. . . make sure they understand where you stand. . . . and make sure you allow them to explain themselves, too. the smoke thing is bogus. no car should smoke. . . even rotary engine autos. they do burn some oil, but remember that it is only SOME oil. . . not ***-loads of it. if it comes down to it take the engine to another shop to have it torn down. of course, this will cost you some money, but if you become dedicated to a lawsuit then it would be worth it (to me) to clear that issue up.

i cant really comment on the problems you are having with your motor, but as far as the check engine light goes, if you are running a standalone ecu (haltech, microtech) then you arent gonna get the light to go off unless you take the bulb out or wait till it dies.

you said you have a diffrent computer in the car, which one?

I had a apexi fc I wanted installed. I have all reciepts for the work they did and I always brought a friend when I went there to fix the problems. Your not gonna believe this I checked if the comp. was really installed and I see a stock ecu in place of it!!! I didn't have the commander, just the ecu... I'm really pissed

My suggestion would be to call them up and ask to come in and speak with the owner about the situation. Don't go the lawyer route until you have exhausted all potential for a compromise that allows everyone to save a little face. And don't settle for talking on the phone; it's too easy to have misunderstandings when you can't see the other party's face.

When you talk with him, don't threaten him with litigation or in any other manner. If you can't get what you want, or if he is unreasonable, calmly thank him for his time, walk away, and sue his ***. That's what I'd do at any rate.

Good luck!

dude if its on your invoice then you had better act fast!!!!!!!!! they b.s.ed you and you need to make sure you can get your money back. 10 bucks says they took your more buildable motor and put a POS in its place.

let me get this straight. you had a power fc that YOU purchased and brought in to install and they stole it? where are they at?

Damn dude. You should definitely give them a call to have this resolved as amicably as posible. Don't know if I have met you in the passed but I know for a fact they are not in the business of ******* cutomers over. Putting in a motor that wasn't yours is not something they would do unless you requested it. As for serials, maybe your motor was already swapped out by a previous owner.

I think I remember you. Do you have a red rx7? Chubby guy?

I bet the ECU is there..........they kept the stock one to control all the other functions of your car like lights, tranny, etc, etc, etc.

Darivative-
I went thru a similar problem with Roberts Mazda in Hickory, NC. Be as polite as you can be, under the circumstances, when you talk to these people, but be sure to document everything- date, time, what you discussed, what they agreed to do, etc. Keep copies of everything- receipts, shop orders, etc. Take a friend (witness) with you and afterward make notes on what was discussed and have your witness sign and date the notes. Don't know if you want to go the hidden tape recorder route. Make a phone log if you talk to them about anything- even to set up a time to talk in person. If you are unable to resolve the problem with them yourself and have to get a lawyer, you will need evidence to prove your side of the dispute to a judge or a mediator (not sure if NJ does this). Also- you will need an expert witness-a reputable mechanic- to back up your opinions about why things went wrong. If you are prepared with tons of receipts, notes, data, witnesses, etc. and the repair shop only has someone with no detailed record of what happened, you stand a better chance of being successful in court. Keep in mind that the judge who hears your case probably knows nothing about RX-7s and can only go by the information you present to him as evidence to make a decision. Keep thinking about those episodes of The Peoples Court and other TV court shows where the plaintif and defendant show up in court with literally no papers, witnesses or any kind of evidence and only make vague accusations back and forth at each other. How the hell can a judge or anyone make a decision on such a ridiculous situation. Bring more evidence than you think you need and you will be well prepared. Also- thinking your lawyer will do this for you...forget it. His job is to know what laws apply and how to present the evidence. Unless you are paying him a gigantic retainer, he will only work with what you provide to him. Guess what- he won't know anything about RX-7s either. Good luck.

Also the port we did in your motor, and the work, we advice you that the ports you had in the motor were not ment to be use with the factory ECU, but you didn't want to spend the extra money in a After market ECU.....and you wanted to run 15+ psi

Okay, guys.. I'm sick of hearing about all this ****. Is it JUST rx7 owners that keep getting screwed by tuner shops? I'm NOT saying that MVA did or did now screw Dar, just that... well, isn't the number one object of any business to make the customer happy? That's what the **** they pay for. Customer buy goods and services to feel gratified by their purchase. If they don't feel this way, then the business didn't do it's job. I think it's sick that businesses don't do every single thing they can to make the customer happy. If that was MY shop, I'd take that motor back on the first sign of trouble. If I had a customer BEGGING me for a streetport that I KNEW wouldn't work with the stock ECU, I'd refuse to do it!

Bottom line: if businesses can't support EVERY SINGLE PRODUCT they offer, they have no business being in business.

I'm sick of this ****.

First off. How do you blame a shop for porting a motor and setting a customers car up the way they request it? Ultimately it is the customers decision. If he is advised to not do it and he proceeds this route anyway it is the customers responsibility; NOT the shop.
