FL Foam Padding in Driver's Door? (pic)

This pic (not mine) shows some supporting foam of some type bracing the driver's door interior. I seem to remember seeing this before.

Is there supposed to be foam there and does it help?

Thanks, getting ready to attack the door weaknesses and curious.

Off topic but relevant. I find it funny that 99% of the time when the FD owners in Florida take pictures of parts we always have bare feet of maybe flip flops on (Myself, PureRx7, etc). God Bless living in a warm state.

I think that may have been added in '94 or something. My '94 door panels definitely have it.

I think it just makes the door panel more solid feeling. That could easily be re-created with any dense styrofoam.

Dale nailed it again. For sure a 94 improvement. There is an extra bracket in there as well.

I think that the plastic that mazda uses for the interior is the cheapest crap on the planet.
Why would the ruin a car with that type of interior is beyond me

Strange. I don't remember my '94 doors having that. Maybe they did and I didn't notice. My '93 doors definitely don't though - then again, I bought them used so if they did they might have fallen off.

i would guess that it is for dampning vibration against the doors frame and plastic so any vibration would not be felt or seen on the doors

Well...the Corvette STILL uses an un-Godly cheap plastic interior...so I wouldn't condemn Mazda TOO much....

Damn it! That does it. Trading off the 93 for a 94 with busted redneck cooler bits. You 94 owners got all the cool upgrades and re-designs.

^too funny!!

I second the idea of using Quiet Coat on the inner door panel metals to make things quiet and more solid. Worked for me. I also used it on the inside plastic shown in the pic. Not sure how much that helped but figured it couldnt hurt.
