People have found the Search Mount IC works the best when they have a particular number of requirements which are better suited for a SMIC vs. a FMIC. OTOH, folks like the FMIC when because they have searched and found that their needs are best suited with the FMIC. Personally, I found a SMIC met my particular needs after reading a bit and providing greater detail so others can ascertain what might be better for you. Vague-ism isn't well supported here, which by stating that you live in the general area of USA may be your style. You are certainly welcome to ask questions such as these, but as I and many others have learned - garbage in, garbage out.

Others have even used IC fans on their stock IC's as shown here.

Search-mount IC - pretty funny. Quick rule of thumb

SMIC - best with stock twins, autoX, road racing - gets heat soak but much less pressure drop

FMIC - best with single turbos and drag racing. Does much better for cooling for quick spirited runs but has heat issues since it blocks air to the radiator.

If it's a street car then a "good" SMIC will suit you best - it's cheaper and easier to install

I think your geographic location also plays a big role in FMIC vs SMIC.

FWIW, I'm going with a Greddy 2-row FMIC, living in Indy; and yes I'm a road race FIEND

Don't worry I have a big-*** Koyo radiator going in too
